Best Thing I Ate This Week: Blackened Catfish, Carne Asada Tacos and Shrimp Maque Choux
Wondering where a food writer eats? I am happy to tell you!
Every other week, I share a few of my favorite bites at Memphis-area restaurants.
Here are three of the best things I ate this past week.
Soul Fish Cafe
Multiple locations; soulfishcafe.com
First up, a meal at Soul Fish Café. While I do love their fried catfish, my go-to order at this catfish spot is their Blackened Catfish.
It’s perfectly seasoned and I love that they serve it with remoulade sauce. The collard greens and sweet potato fries are my top picks for sides.
Picosos
3937 Summer Ave.; (901) 323-7003
Next, a stop by Picosos on Summer Avenue for my favorite Carnes Asada Tacos. These are my favorite version in town.
I like to add a little of their house-made salsa verde on top. And I always get a side order of salsa, guacamole and chips.
Libro at Laurelwood
387 Perkins Ext.; (901) 800-2656; libroatlaurelwood.com
Last but not least, a visit to Libro restaurant in Novel bookstore for the Shrimp Maque Choux.
This hearty dish is almost like a Cajun risotto — shrimp, corn and poblano peppers in a rich cream sauce with Cajun seasoning is served over basmati rice. It’s absolutely delicious.
