Best Thing I Ate This Week: Beignets, a Tuna Melt and Dover Sole

Wondering where a food writer eats? I am happy to tell you!

Each week, I share a few of my favorite bites at Memphis-area restaurants.

Here are three of the best things I ate this past week.

Mo' Bay Beignet Co.: Mini Beignets with Cinnamon Dipping Sauce

First up, breakfast at Mo’ Bay Beignet Co. (585 Cooper St.) This new Midtown beignet shop serves beignets that taste like ones in New Orleans. I like the "mini" beignets with the signature cinnamon dipping sauce. Take my advice and also get a café au lait iced coffee.

Paradise Cafe: Half Sandwich and Soup

Next up, lunch at Paradise Café (6150 Poplar Ave.) This East Memphis deli has been a favorite of mine for years. I love how the sandwiches come with veggies on top. It's like having a salad on a sandwich! In the summer, I get a half tuna melt with a cup of gazpacho.

Erling Jensen: Dover Sole Meuniere

Finally, dinner at Erling Jensen (1044 S. Yates.) There is a reason Erling Jensen is considered one of Memphis’ top fine dining restaurants. My favorite entrée is the Dover Sole Meuniere that comes topped with a generous portion of lump crab meat.
