Best Thing I Ate Last Week: Fried Mushrooms, a Charcuterie Board and Small Plates

Wondering where a food writer eats? I am happy to tell you!

Each week, I share a few of my favorite dishes at Memphis-area restaurants.

From a local twist on Fried Mushrooms to a tasty Charcuterie and Cheese Board to new menu items at an award-winning local restaurant, here are three things I enjoyed recently.

Tamboli's Pasta & Pizza

1761 Madison Ave.; tambolis.com

First on the list, a trip to Tamboli’s Pasta and Pizza.

I normally go just for the pizza, but my friend recommended the Fried Shiitake Mushrooms on a recent visit. Oh my! Shiitakes from Bluff City Fungi in a white wine batter are fried until crispy. Order them with the creamy Parmesan dipping sauce. This dish takes fried mushrooms to a whole new level!

Greys Fine Cheese & Entertaining

709 S. Mendenhall Road; greyscheese.com

For my birthday, my friends took me to lunch at Greys Fine Cheese & Entertaining.

Their cheese and charcuterie boards (they call them planches) are a fun snack any time of day. And on your birthday, they give you a candle! Greys is known for its unique and elevated cheese and charcuterie selections.

Dory

Lastly, I can’t say enough about the new menu at Dory restaurant. All of chef David Krog’s dishes are just as delicious in full-plate size as they were in a tasting plate. Just more to enjoy now.

Definitely try the carrots, mushrooms and the mussels. Those were three of my favorite items on the small plates menu.
