Jax's Tattoos
Anti-hero Jax has a ton of tattoos, including the tombstone of John Teller, his late father. John played a huge role in his son's development, so it makes total sense that he would honor him with some ink.
Gemma's Tattoos
Gemma may not be a tatted up as some of the other bikers, but she has her fair share of ink. She has a crow on her chest to show her role as the matriarch of SAMCRO.
Clay's Tattoos
Clay had a number of tattoos, including a reaper on his arm that gets blacked out in season five. According to head make up artist Tracey Anderson, "The blacked out Reaper went through many changes. It is a lot of ink and to apply without getting a wrinkle was a challenge - but not half the challenge as it was to remove."

Some of the tattoos were inspired by real life ink, like Juice's tribal head design that were based on some of show runner Kurt Sutter's tattoos. Actor Theo Rossi believes that Juice got these when he was young in order to inspire fear.
"He became what he was trying to portray [a killer], and I think he just wasn't ready for it."

The ink on Tig's forearm was a traditional Marine tattoo that was designed by a WWII vet.

According to actor Tommy Flanagan, the money on Chibs' chest is meant to signify "F*ck you, pay me."
