The amount of "grime" it took off our floors was "impressive and disgusting”

The mere thought of maneuvering a heavy vacuum around the house is enough of a chore. Robot vacuums offer a hands-free approach to cleaning, allowing users to devote their time to something far more valuable: not cleaning.

PEOPLE tested more than 300 vacuums to find the very best of every model, be it cordless, handheld, or upright. Their favorite robot vacuum, however, was the iRobot Roomba 694, a clever robotic cleaner that just so happens to be $116 off during Amazon’s Cyber Week sale.

Testers praised its ability to thoroughly clean carpets and hard floors like wood and tile, as well as its aptitude at “effective, unsupervised cleaning” in general.

“Our tester used the iRobot vacuum weekly for six months and continued to be delighted by how efficiently it sucked up dirt, debris, hair, and more,” they explained. The same tester also noted it was “impressive and disgusting how much grime the vacuum got off their floors.”

The vacuum comes with a three-stage cleaning system and uses a sweeping brush to tackle corners and edges. There’s also an auto-adjusting cleaning head that detects different floor types, which then alerts its multi-surface brush rolls to snag deeply embedded messes from carpets or surface-level ones from hard floors. And when its reaches its 90-minute runtime, the vacuum scoots itself back to its dock to recharge.

The vacuum is also equipped with sensors that prevent it from falling off of ledges and ramming into furniture. Although our testers noticed slight sensory issues — mainly that it mistakes the edge of a rug for something steeper — they assured that it’s “fantastic at maneuvering around obstacles like chair legs and couches.”

Another major perk is its smart compatibility with the iRobot Home app and voice control via Alexa or Google Home, so you can schedule cleaning sessions or turn the vacuum on and off from just about anywhere.

“It took us less than five minutes to get this robot vac going after removing it from the box,” our testers raved. “This short time period included downloading the app and setting up the vacuum's cleaning schedule on our phones.”

Bottom line: The iRobot Roomba 694 Robot Vacuum Cleaner would make an impressive addition to any utility closet. Snap it up while it’s still on sale at Amazon.
