Best PS5 wireless headset: cut the cords this generation

 Sony Pulse 3D headset
Sony Pulse 3D headset

A PS5 wireless headset is rapidly becoming the weapon of choice for PS5 (and PS4, to an extent) owners. Wireless technology has hit mainstream pricing now, which means not only will you find excellent prices on high-end cups, but budget headsets no longer require a tethered connection to provide an excellent experience. We're rounding up all the best PS5 wireless headsets on the market right now - whether you've been lucky enough to get one of the new-gen consoles.

Now, don't get us wrong, there will always be a place for a PS5 wired headset. Sometimes you can't beat the flexibility that connection provides, and a lack of signal dropout - to say nothing of low latency - can't be ignored. Plus, some of the best gaming headsets are wired models so the quality is absolutely proven. However, getting a PS5 wireless headset is a particularly astute move right now - they offer greater flexibility and less faff.

The number of PS5 wireless headsets that will play nice with the previous gen is not too bad, either. It's clear that a large proportion of the big players are eager to offer compatibility with both generations. This means such a headset could be your tether-free version of the best PS4 headset simultaneously. Nice.

Before we dig right into this quality list of wireless PS5 headsets, the news that Sony is bringing out a new line of headsets aimed at PS5 (and PC) users is worth taking note of. These 'INZONE' headsets are so obviously meant to go with a PS5 - they even share the same design aesthetic. From a wireless perspective, they are worth looking at as two of the m, the H7 andH9 are wireless. And even though they are not out in the mainstream until July 7, 2022, you can reserve one now, so it's worth finding out how to pre-order Sony INZONE headsets now and swot up on all their specs and features. However, until then, below are the best PS5 wireless headsets going, and they will absolutely hold their own in the face of these new Sony sets.

1. Sony PS5 Pulse 3D wireless headset

The official headset is the best PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic Design: Closed Back, over ear | Drivers: 40mm | Weight: 295g | Compatibility: PS5, PS4, PC, PSVR

Official companion accessory

Tempest 3D AudioTech

Easy to use

Very comfortable

Great value

Built-in microphone could be better

The official Sony PS5 wireless headset is now my go-to PS5 headset. And that's because it is just superb. There's no doubting that it also offers benefits from being the official companion of the PS5. Boasting the same aesthetics and design language, there's a reason why the Pulse 3D headset is easily one of the best PS5 headsets generally, and perhaps the easiest way to tap into the PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech.

And the quality is noticeable, immediately. From the pre-loaded Astro's Playroom to bigger, heavier hitters like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the investment in the Tempest audio engine, and how the PUlse 3D delivers it to you, is exceptional; the drivers cover all parts of the audio spectrum brilliantly, with better bass than the official PS4 headsets to boot.

Elsewhere, the built-in mic is reliable and clear, though not being a boom mic does mean it picks up some background noise and isn't quite as crisp. But this is nitpicking. The Pulse 3D has set a high bar for PS5 wireless headsets, and it's likely to remain around the top of these lists for the entire generation, based on what it's capable of and demonstrates. If you can find a PS5 or a PS5 stock drop that includes this headset then we couldn't recommend going for it more.

2. Razer Barracuda X

The best value wireless PS5 headset

Acoustic design: Closed Back | Drivers: 40mm Razer Triforce | Weight: 250g | Compatibility: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, Android mobile

Excellent audio quality at a low price

USB-C connection

Simple plug and play

No additional software settings for PC users

The Razer Barracuda X offers something very few gaming headsets manage to these days; simplicity. While other cups can drive up prices with complex software features geared towards the PC crowd, the Barracuda X keeps its features (and price tag) console focused. That means you're paying for a high-quality audio experience, without having to fork out for specs that you'll never make the most of. Sure, it's a stripped back feature list, but when you're simply after great audio in a lightweight, comfortable headset, this is an excellent option for a top Razer headset at under $100 / £100.

This is only compounded by the excellent battery life we've experienced in our testing. Billed at 20 hours, recharges are a rarity when playing for 2-3 hours per night. Plus, that subtle design means these cups are just at home on the daily commute as they are on the battlefield.

The best premium PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic design: Closed Back, over ear | Drivers: 40mm Neodymium | Weight: 337g | Compatibility: PS5, PS4, PC, Switch, Mobile

Incredible SteelSeries audio quality

Awesome DAC/hub with great options

Superb build and design

Excellent connectivity options

Ingenius battery solution

One of the most expensive premium gaming headsets going

This is it folks: this is the generation's gold standard for PS5 wireless headsets. If you have the budget, then this is the easiest recommendation for a wireless gaming headset for PS5 I can make; it is simply, hands down, one of the best headsets I've ever tested. In every way, the headset delivers on its promise and goes as far as I've witnessed any premium set in justifying the lofty price tag.

The Nova Pro Wireless is a fantastic sounding headset for all games and media, but it is a headset whose audio is surrounded by excellence in every area: the design and build are supreme and sleek - and one that means you can easily use these as your daily-driver headphones; the connectivity is wonderful; the mic ir rich and clear; and the feature set and base station are so good at allowing customization and tweaking so you can get the perfect setting no matter what you're playing. And the battery solution is also ingenious! The base station charges one removable battery while you use the other, and you can plug it in via USB-C to charge it too.

The SteelSeries Arctis 7P replaced my official Sony Platinum headset; the Arctis 7P+ replaced my 7P, and now, the Nova Pro Wireless has replaced the 7P+. It's just so good, and swats away the competition with effortless ease.

The pick of third-party PS5 wireless headsets

Acoustic design: Closed Back, over ear | Drivers: 40mm Neodymium | Weight: 354g | Compatibility: PS4, PS5, PC, Switch, Mobile

SteelSeries game audio quality

USB-C dongle connectivity

Brilliant 30-hour battery life

Excellent build and comfort

Bass is a bit lacking

Stock has been spotty

Representing a soft refresh of the Arctis 7P, the 7P+ looks identical but evolves on the P to bring it more in line with the new-gen of consoles. And while the 7P remains an excellent PS5 wireless headset and still worth the money (especially when discounted) the 7P+ should be the new default headset in the range and SteelSeries has breathed a bit of new life and enhancements into the headset - and the results are terrific.

These worthwhile enhancements don't mess too much with the actual sound but offer a better means to enjoy the already-excellent audio. This comes in the form of improved connectivity, a greater 30-hour battery life, and a quick-charge function on the battery too. While these aren't going to trouble anyone that already has an Arctis 7P, if you're after a top PS5 headset, such factors could be the clincher...

But sound quality is king for us, and so it proved again in our testing with the 7P+. The sound is clear, distinct, detailed, rich, and well-rounded - the lack of the bass is a slight complaint but that's our only real complaint. To round out the experience, we're still big fans of the excellent build that remains too: there's a chic design, the build makes the headset strong and solid while retaining great comfort, and the ski-goggle headband is still as great as ever, as are the retractable microphone and onboard controls.

A wonderful headset and one of the best PS5 wireless headsets going - and, for what it's worth, one of the best PS4 headsets in our eyes too.

Note: We'll have to see how the new Arctis Nova series from SteelSeries shakes up the market, but the 7P+ is still a terrific wireless headset even in the face of newer brethren.

5. Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2

The best mid-range PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic design: Closed Back, over ear | Drivers: 50mm Nanoclear | Weight: 382g | Compatibility: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Doubles battery life from the previous generation

Incredibly comfortable

Great microphone accuracy

Might be a tight fit for some

Leading the line of Turtle Beach's Gen 2 headsets, the Stealth 700 is the best Turtle Beach headset for PS5. It's had a design upgrade from the previous incarnation with a new, subtler aesthetic, and a flip-to-mute mic that folds neatly into the earcup's design and form. The controls have also been shuffled around a bit to now only feature on one earcup and all are easy to use.

Still, the new design's greatest success is that it's incredibly comfortable. Supple memory foam cushions with Aerofit cooling gel are a highlight, ensuring you can wear them for hours at a time with no aches or strains.

Importantly, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 headset sounds excellent. Its large drivers give you some great all-around sound, and the ability to fine-tune the audio to your liking with the Audio Hub adds depth to the possible soundscapes. The Superhuman Hearing feature is a worthy inclusion too and stays true to Turtle Beach headsets' exemplary track record in first-person shooters and online shooters. A great headset that'll cover you for both PS4 and PS5, and a terrific PS5 wireless headset overall.

6. Astro A50

The best luxury PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic design: Closed back; over ear | Drivers: 40mm Neodymium Magnet | Weight: 11.2oz / 318g | Compatibility: PS5, PS4, PC

Wireless charging

Peerless comfort

Powerful, distinct sound

Software isn’t as luxurious as the hardware

Slow to charge

If you're looking for sheer premium gaming audio in a PS5 wireless headset then Astro’s A50s could well be for you. Definitely worth saving up for to account for their price tag, the A50s have long been a high-tide mark not just within the manufacturer’s own product range but in console wireless headsets for the better part of a decade now. And this latest variant is an absolute banger.

A few minutes with the latest version of the A50 and it’s clear why: there is peerless comfort and build quality, twinned with a rich sound even the most particular of audiophiles would be impressed by. This version’s had its wireless base station slimmed down to take up less space and charges the headset to about 15 hours of charge, which is about the standard for current wireless models. A quick note on the base station and compatibility with PS5 here: you will have to obtain Astro's HDMI Audio Adapter to ensure functionality with the PS5 (follow this guide). This is due to the PS5 not having an optical audio port. An extra acquisition but one that is absolutely worth it! Elsewhere, there's added flexibility and options too by plugging the A50 into a PC and using Astro’s Command Center software to choose between EQ profiles and tweaks within its simple interface. Not that tweaks are really necessary here - the sound you get by default is really special.

It’s authoritative but tight in the low end of the audio spectrum, making those low resonant frequencies felt without drowning out the subtler details higher up the frequency range. In fact, it might be the single best for sound articulation on the wireless market right now, and the best  for PlayStation too.

Note: Just remember, Astro makes the A50 for PlayStation and Xbox - ensure you have the right model selected at the retailer before purchasing!

7. Razer Kaira Pro for PlayStation

The best haptic PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic design: Closed Back, over ear | Drivers: 50mm Razer TriForce | Weight: 365g | Compatibility: PS4, PS5, PC, Mobile

Great audio quality

Very comfortable

Haptics are excellent

Solid design

Dearer than some of its closest competition

Mic is a bit tinny and thin

If you're looking for one of the latest and greatest from one of the best in your hunt for a PS5 wireless headset then the Razer Kaira Pro for PlayStation is a terrific choice.

The headset shares a lot with the Kaira range generally that we saw rolled out for Xbox prior to the PlayStation range, and, as a result, looks similar, while maintaining a white and black colourway to match the console. One of the biggest selling points, however, is the inclusion of Razer's newest haptic feedback tech. The inclusion of this makes this Razer headset is a surefire enhancement for those looking for a bit more immersion from their PS5 wireless headset. The haptics only requires the existence of audio frequency to work which is impressive. The one drawback of the haptics is that your teammates and friends speaking to you will also set them off which is a little annoying - perhaps the next generation of haptics will be able to tell between in-game audio to enhance and chat audio to ignore...

But when the haptics in the Kaira Pro team up with the DualSense, your gaming experience is taken to a different place and really makes for an exciting ride and an immersive experience - though you can turn them off if that's not your bag. Then you'll 'just' be treated to the Kaira Pro's excellent audio quality that really does a brilliant job from the deepest of booms to the highest-pitch notes.

The mic could be a bit better with my friends saying I was a bit tinny and thin sounding, but this isn't too much of a detractor on what is an exceptional PS5 wireless headset.

8. Sony Inzone H9

The best premium, official PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic design: Over-ear, closed back | Type: Bluetooth and 2.4GHz | Compatibility: PC, PlayStation, Android, iOS | Frequency response: 5 Hz - 20 kHz

Sleek and chic design that looks great with PS5

Super comfortable for long-term wear, even if you wear glasses

Great sound quality

Microphone isn't the best

Ear cups are rather oversized

More expensive than other quality wireless sets

There's no denying that the Sony INZONE H9 looks great, especially next to the INZONE M9 monitor and the PS5. It is also a great-sounding PS5 wireless headset as well, and with a host of customization options for PC players, you can fine-tune the audio and save sound profiles for specific listening situations whether it's movies, music, or gaming. The INZONE H9 is also incredibly comfortable, especially for those who wear glasses. It can be worn for long periods of time without any discomfort.

But, the price and mediocre microphone may be a deterrent for some, especially when there are other similarly priced or cheaper PS5 wireless headsets at the premium end of the spectrum that offer higher-quality microphones and even more expansive audio. But if you're looking for a headset that looks great with your existing Sony products and aren't all that bothered by microphones (maybe you don't play online, or don't care if you sound a little tinny), then this is still a pretty damn good headset.

During our tests, the INZONE H9 sounded fantastic with a variety of music (like Beyonce's new album, or a favorite Mitski song) and was great for multiplayer gaming with titles like Warzone and Apex Legends. It hooked up to the PS5 with ease and made Elden Ring even more immersive, and the ability to connect to your phone via Bluetooth so I could play metal while trying to defeat Dragonlord Placidusax was pretty epic.

9. Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2

The next best Turtle Beach PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic design: Closed Back, over ear | Drivers: 50mm | Battery life: 15 hours | Weight: 580g | Compatibility: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Solid battery life

Comfortable for glasses wearers

Excellent audio and microphone accuracy

Next-gen compatible

Plastic across headband feels cheap

Ear cups started to hurt after long-term wear

If you're looking to maximise bang-to-buck value for your PS5 wireless headset, then the second generation of Turtle Beach Stealth 600s is a great set to consider. Compatible with PS4 and PC too, the positioning of the Stealth 600 Gen 2 as a mid-range headset is likely to be an astute one and attract loads of players who want to maximise their PS5 audio experience without going overboard on price.

With nicely-tuned 50mm drivers, a solid 15-hour battery life, a comfortable fit (even with glasses), the bang for buck value is strong. But when you throw in an easy setup process, Turtle Beach audio excellence, and that price tag, you really are flying in terms of value.

The sound quality is top-tier and the microphone sensitivity is ideal for those who want to communicate without shouting, but the design of the headset does suffer a bit from feeling plasticky and cheap at points. It's not quite as comfortable as the 700s but isn't enough to put anyone off, either. Just watch out for those longer play sessions.

Basically, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2s are a good sequel to an affordable wireless headset: the set looks pretty good, feels pretty good, and sounds great - a no-brainer if you're looking to get a no-nonsense PS5 wireless headset without breaking the bank.

10. EPOS | Sennheiser GSP 370

The best built-for-PS4 wireless headset for PS5

Acoustic design: Semi-open back; around ear | Cable length: wireless; 1.5m charging cable | Drivers: N/A | Weight: 9.9oz | Compatibility: PS4, PC, Mac

Sennheiser-grade audio

Incredible battery life

COmfortable but robust design and build

A little expensive

No surround sound (but you'll still get PS5 3D audio)

If your top priorities are genuine audio quality and battery life then look no further than the EPOS | Sennheiser GSP 370 headset.

In these two areas, this PS5 wireless headset excels - and in abundance. In terms of sound quality, while you don't get 'true' surround sound, you will get some of the best Sennheiser-quality game audio that's possible to get. The rich history snd pedigree shines through: there's clarity, detail, and depth here in bucketloads. The build is also solid as a rock; sturdy, close-but-comfortable, and the perfect weight, while the cups fit so neatly that the design blocks out excess noise by default. In terms of battery life, you're getting something truly extraordinary too: around 100 hours (one hundred!) from one charge.

If audio quality and battery life (if you had to pick two factors) are the most important features for you when browsing PS5 wireless headsets then this EPOS |or Sennheiser gaming headset is absolutely worth your money.

11. Razer BlackShark V2 Pro

The best PC and PS5 wireless headset

Acoustic design: Closed Back, over ear | Drivers: Razer TriForce Titanium 50mm Drivers | Battery life: up to 24 hours | Weight: 320g | Compatibility: PS4, PS5, PC

Exquisite game audio

Brilliant richness and audio detail

Very comfortable and lightweight

Near-endless versatility and customization with the THX app

A bit expensive

Now, while not really focused toward or even 'sold' as a PS5 wireless headset, the BlackShark V2 Pro is an excellent pick for those chasing sound quality and Razer pedigree for their wireless headset.

The V2 Pro has a wonderfully lightweight design - though a bit heavier than its wired counterpart - and is excellently comfortable to wear for long periods. While cutting the chords that the wired V2 has, the V2 Pro has the same audio excellence, quality (and detachable microphone), and the same TriForce titanium drivers which Razer has found such success within the revamped BlackShark line (and Kairas, too).

It is a bit on the expensive side, though it readily goes for way below its list price given it's been out in the wild now and Razer also has an upcoming line of Krakens coming. That means you can now get this excellent headset for less than normal and increase the value it offers.

This is my go-to PC headset and I often give it a blast on the PS5 because I love its sound quality. Plus, it's got great battery life and a really solid mic.

The best wireless earbuds for PS5

Compatibility: PS5 / PS4 / PC / Nintendo Switch / mobile | Connectivity: Wireless | Drivers: Unknown | Weight: 0.84lbs - total package weight (384g)

Impressive sound

Comfortable fit

Excellent battery life

Microphone won’t work with dongle

The EPOS GTW 70 Hybrid wireless earbuds focus on offering a high-end audio experience - and this really does translate when used as a PS5 wireless headset.

These earbuds boast the sort of audio quality you’d expect from the team at EPOS, with deep bass, rich mid-tones, and fantastic directional audio making them as impressive playing games on your PS5 as they are listening to your favourite tunes through your phone. Plus, a charging case comes with the GTW 70 Hybrid that can give the earbuds up to a total of 20 hours of battery life.

They come with a USB-C dongle, allowing you to plug them into your PS5, as well as a cable that will allow you to plug the dongle into a PS4. On top of that, they also support Bluetooth, so you can sync them with any device that supports it.

While they do come with an in-built microphone, this only works when you’re connected through Bluetooth, rather than the USB-C dongle. That’s because the dongle is focused on providing low-latency audio, so there is minimal disruption between what’s happening in your game and what you’re hearing. However, it does mean that you won’t be able to communicate with teammates online.
