The BEST LEGO Sets Releasing in August 2022
It’s no secret that LEGO releases new sets monthly, but typically January, March, and August get the biggest drops. This is due to their timing around holidays, movie releases, and seasonal changes.
August of 2022 is no exception, with this being one of the biggest and best LEGO release months in recent memory. With so many sets to chose from, I’ve put together a guide to some of the most alluring sets to keep an eye out for.
As always, your best bet is to order these from LEGO’s website on August 1st. You can also wait outside your local LEGO store to ensure you get these sets before they backorder. However, If you're patient, these sets will eventually restock and many will even appear at local retailers, too.
1. LEGO ICONS 10497 Galaxy Explorer and 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle

Timing into LEGO’s “90 Years of Play” campaign, these two retro-styled sets are sure to sell out. Both sets are retrofitted into LEGO boxes with 80s-style artwork. They offer modern building techniques from two of the brand’s most iconic themes: Space and Castle. The Galaxy Explorer clocks in at $99.99 and releases on August 1st. Lion Knights’ Castle releases on August 3 for LEGO VIPs and August 8 for the general public.
LEGO's behemoth Castle set will ring up at a whopping $399.99 due to its 4,514 piece count. This has fans exciting for the build and scared for their wallets. Regardless of the price, I have no doubt that it will be on backorder shortly after its release due to high demand.
2. LEGO Architecture 21058 Great Pyramid of Giza

Although this set has been available outside of North America since June, we’ll finally get a crack at it here in the US. This set is a beautiful recreation the Giza Pyramid in its heyday, and if you purchase two copies of this $129.99 set you can combine them to create one full four-sided pyramid.
3. LEGO STAR WARS 75337 AT-TE Walker

LEGO Star Wars collectors have been begging for a dedicated “Phase II” Commander Cody minifigure since 2005. This is the year he’ll finally make his debut. The AT-TE is perhaps the most robust version of this hulking Republic weapon, and this set is designed as the ultimate army-builder. Unfortunately, it will be released a little later in August here in North America, but most other countries will be able to buy the set on August 1 as planned.
Other Star Wars sets of note are Cad Bane’s Justifier for $169.99, the Kenobi-inspired Inquisitor Transport Scythe for $99.99, the BD-1 mode from Fallen Order at $99.99, and my personal favorite, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter for $29.99
4. LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum

Following the success of 2021’s Daily Bugle set, the Sanctum Sanctorum opens a mystical portal into the home of Doctor Strange in the MCU. This set has over 2,700 pieces and comes with nine minifigures (eight of which are exclusive!) I was fortunate enough to review this set early thanks to LEGO (review available here: https://youtu.be/pQLy3wG3YmM). While I find it worthy of its $249.99 price tag, I think the Daily Bugle is the superior build of the two.
Other sets of note from the Marvel theme are the life-sized Baby Groot set 76217 and the Nano Gauntlet set 76223.
5. LEGO ART 31206 The Rolling Stones Tongue

Turns you you CAN always get what you want with this 1,998 piece 3D sculpture of the iconic Rolling Stones logo!
6. LEGO SPEED CHAMPIONS Movie Cars

Speed Champions is one of LEGO’s most underrated themes. It recreates popular performance cars into mini figure-scaled models. This year, they’re getting into the movie business by releasing two licensed sets: the Fast and Furious 1970 Dodge Charger set 76912 and the James Bond Aston Martin DB5 set 76911.
Both of these sets include minifigures of their respective drivers. At just $19.99, I think these are two of the best price-friendly licensed Lego sets to come out in recent memory.
7. LEGO ICONS 10306 Atari 2600

After the crushing success of the Nintendo Entertainment System set, it should come as no surprise that LEGO went back to the well to create another classic gaming system. This time, they’re back with a faithful scale replica of the classic Atari 2600 system. It's complete with a joystick, game cartridges, and even a hidden 80s game room tucked inside the build! The retail price is $239.99 and it promises to be a nostalgic build.
While these are just a few of my favorite picks, there are still dozens of great sets coming out. Some of them feature themes such as City, Ninjago, Disney, BrickHeadz, and more. I’d love to write about them all, but then I’d have no time to build them!
