The Detroit Lions got some Motown love Sunday afternoon straight from the big man himself: Berry Gordy.

The Motown Records founder connected with Lions head coach Dan Campbell, general manager Brad Holmes and owner Sheila Ford Hamp ahead of the team’s NFC championship game against the San Francisco 49ers, Gordy's representative told the Free Press.

Gordy congratulated the team on its division title and wished the group luck in tonight’s matchup.

The specifics of Gordy’s remarks to Campbell and company weren’t available going into gametime. But it’s clear the Motown founder is caught up in Lions mania just like Detroiters and Motor City expats across the country, part of a celebrity booster club that has included Eminem, Bob Seger, Big Sean and others.

Last week at Hitsville, U.S.A. — where Gordy founded his trailblazing record company in 1959 — the Motown Museum redid the building’s iconic picture window to sport a Lions display. Gordy moved the company in the early '70 to Los Angeles, where he continues to reside.
