Berks County churches schedule Thanksgiving Eve services [Religion Digest]

Nov. 18----Linda and Mike Hertzog will provide special music for the Thanksgiving eve service on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ of Molltown, 219 Maidencreek Road, Richmond Township.

—St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 W. Arch St., Fleetwood, will hold its annual community Thanksgiving Eve service on Wednesday at 7 p.m. There will be a luncheon following the 10:30 a.m. service on Nov. 26, which is the farewell service for the Rev. John Folk, pastor.

—Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will hold an ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve service on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Following the service, all are invited to our social hall for a time of fellowship and refreshments. On Sunday during the 9 a.m. worship service, Luke Moser, a youth member of the congregation, will lead the congregation in worship and present the sermon. The quilts that were made by members and friends will be blessed. Coffee & Conversation will be held at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. in the Welcome Center.

—A community Thanksgiving Eve service will be held at United Church of Christ of Robesonia, 301 W. Penn Ave., on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Eileen Smith LeVan, associate pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Robesonia. There will be a combined choir with St. Daniel's Lutheran and UCC of Robesonia. There will be refreshments and fellowship after the service. On Sunday, the 10:15 a.m. worship service will celebrate Harvest Home. —Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Ave., Reading, welcomes the Rev. Marian Shearer as guest preacher at 8 and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

—St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 47 S. Whiteoak St., Kutztown, will hold a Christmas bazaar on Dec. 2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Christmas mice, cookies, crafts, books, puzzles, white elephants and eat-in and take-out food will be available to purchase.

—Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 170 Tuckerton Road, Muhlenberg Township, will be holding a craft bazaar today from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be local crafter items, basket raffle, homemade jellies, pies, cakes, desserts, cookies and much more. —St. John's Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will have a free drive-thru, take-out meal today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. No registration necessary.

—A free community meal will be served cafeteria style at Belleman's Church, 3540 Belleman's Church Road, Centre Township, on Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 in the Fellowship Hall.

—All are invited to participate in "Sing Messiah" at Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church, 1 Carlisle Drive, Lincoln Park, on Nov. 26 at 3 p.m., conducted by William W. Snelling. Soloists will be Katherine Crusi, soprano; Maria Damore, mezzo-soprano; John Coakley, tenor; and Milo Morris, bass-baritone, accompanied by the Berks Chamber Orchestra. Singing participants should bring their own music. Donations will be accepted.

—On Sunday morning from 9:05 to 9:45 at Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, David Emes will present a forum on "Favorite Saints." Parking is available at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel garage and the M&T Bank lot, both located off of Washington Street. Handicap spaces are located beside the church on Court Street.

—"Bringing Forth Christ: Five Feasts of the Child Jesus" is the topic of an Advent retreat scheduled for Dec. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the McGlinn Conference & Spirituality Center, located at 460 St. Bernardine St., Reading, adjacent to Alvernia University. Bernardine Sister Patrice Klausing will lead the retreat, which is based on a book by St. Bonaventure. Participants will explore the graces associated with the five feasts and consider the work of Christians to bring forth Christ into a hurting world. —St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 2901 Curtis Road, West Lawn, will host Breakfast with a Purpose on Sunday from 10:45 until noon. Breakfast will include soup and grilled cheese sandwich at no cost to attendees. Free will donations will be accepted and used to help local community members in need.

—The Rev. David Kistler, who once was a member of the congregation, will be the guest pastor for the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church, 8410 Lancaster Ave., Bethel Township.
