Benzino Accuses Eminem Of Appropriating Black Culture On “Rap Elvis” Diss Track

Benzino continues to lash out at longtime rival Eminem, as the rapper and reality TV star releases “Rap Elvis,” his latest diss record aimed at the Hip-Hop legend.
On Wednesday (Jan. 31), the Massachusettes rep unveiled his second response to Em’s “Doomsday Pt. 2” record, on which Slim Shady verbally assaults Benzino with a series of insults. On “Rap Elvis,” which follows his previous diss track, “Vulturius,” Benzino likens Eminem to music icon Elvis Presley, who many have charged with stealing from Black artists and culture for his own popularity and gain.
“Rock & Roll was a Black thing until Elvis came and made it different/ You can’t self sustain, you too selfish wait and listen,” the 58-year-old raps early on in the track, which spans roughly four-and-a-half minutes. “You keep saying my name you put yourself in this position/ This what happens when the Celtics play the Pistons.”
Benzino also says he was “minding his business” prior to Eminem’s mention of him, accusing the hitmaker of attempting to use he and his daughter, Coi Leray, in an attempt to generate interest in his music. “You wasn’t making any type of noise these days/ So a choice was made, clout chase Benzino and Coi Leray/ You still in your annoying phase.”
Further piling on his nemesis, the “Rock The Party” creator points out the lack of success Em has enjoyed in regards to Shady Records label, listing the numerous artists that have departed from the label since its inception. “So let’s go down your stable, Gun left your label/ Benny left your label, Con left your label, Royce left your label,” he jabs.
“Joe Budden left your label, Ortiz left your label/ Crooked I couldn’t save you, Yelawolf been out here floppin’/ And where the hell Ca$his been at though?/ Only heard from Obie Trice only twice and not a word from Stat Quo/ With all them false lines that you pitched them/ Shady records sound like less of a name and more like a description.”
The war of words between Benzino and Eminem has lasted for two decades and shows no signs of slowing down. The two first bumped heads during Benzino’s time at The Source, during which the magazine published a cover story detailing Em’s past usage of racially demeaning lyrics targeting Black women.
Eminem would apologize for those statements, but would diss Benzino on his Shady Times: Invasion, Pt. 1 mixtape in 2002. In turn, Benzino returned fire on his own mixtape Benzino Presents Round 3 “Die Another Day” Flawless Victory in 2003.
