Bento Box Opens Kids Unit, Teams With ‘Teletubbies’ Andrew Davenport; Adam Godley Leads ‘Sophie Borg’ – Mipcom

Bob’s Burgers maker Bento Box Entertainment has launched new kids and family division, Sutikki, and entered into a partnership with Andrew Davenport, co-creator of Teletubbies and creator of In The Night Garden. Via Davenport’s production company, Foundling Bird, Sutikki will be the primary production partner and handle global product licensing for his next kids series. Bento Box, which also makes Legends Of Chamberlain Heights for Comedy Central, is making its first foray into kids programming with Sutikki (Japanese for “sticky”). Co-founders of the new division are Irene Weibel and Andrew Kerr who will head the unit and be responsible for day-to-day operations. Weibel was previously VP and head of Nelvana Studio. Kerr was co-head, Nelvana Enterprises. Davenport is a multi-award-winning English producer, writer and composer specializing in creating high-volume television and publishing series for young children. He co-created Teletubbies (first broadcast in the UK in 1997) and wrote all of its 365 episodes. That series and In The Night Garden remain leading global pre-school brands — after 19 and nine years respectively.

Swedish broadcaster SVT has begun shooting on crime comedy Sophie Borg, an eight-episode series for late 2017. Cast has been set with Adam Godley (Breaking Bad, Suits) as DCI Tom Brown and Lisa Henni (Easy Money) as the eponymous police officer. The character is described as classic Nordic Noir; a lone wolf who trusts no one, has an answer to everything and will go against her superiors if the situation calls for it. The plot sounds like a comedic twist on The Bridge. When a grotesque murder with religious undertones is committed in her old hometown, Borg’s superiors order her to take on the case. The victim is a British man from St Ives visiting under mysterious circumstances. When this information reaches St Ives, the Chief of Police orders DCI Brown to work with Borg. Produced by SVT, FLX and Film Vast, Sophie Borg also stars Tomas von Bromssen, Lia Boysen, Erik Madsen and Magnus Krepper. Lilyhammer’s Simen Alsvik is conceptual director with Swedish Dicks’ Jon Holmberg helming the first four episodes. The series is written by Erik Hultkvist, Taipo Leopold, Rikard Ulvshammar and Robin Muhr. Executive Producer is Matilda Klein.
