Benjamin Hollingsworth's 3 Children: All About Hemingway, Gatsby and Juniper

Benjamin Hollingsworth shares three children with his wife Nila Hollingsworth

Virgin River’s Benjamin Hollingsworth is a dad of three.

The actor shares his daughter Juniper Bloom and sons Hemingway Nash and Gatsby Willem with his wife, Nila Myers.

Four years after getting married, Benjamin became a father in 2016 with the birth of his son Hemingway, whom he helped deliver. The couple’s second son, Gatsby, arrived in 2018, followed by their daughter, Juniper, in 2020.

When announcing the birth of his third child, Benjamin admitted on Instagram that he “always looked at other families with three plus kids and thought ‘man those people are crazy, who does that?'” While the actor said the idea of having a third child “seemed impossible,” he pointed out that “it’s the idea that always seems unattainable.”

“The capacity to expand our hearts lies within us all,” Benjamin wrote. “I’m constantly in awe of how quickly our hearts transform and make room.”

The Code Black actor described himself as “hands and heart full-on” with his kids in a 2021 interview with Parents Canada.

“I can’t think of anything or anyone I could love more than my family,” Benjamin told the outlet. “Regardless of the relentless chaotic catastrophe I’m constantly surrounded by, I can’t help but find myself squeezing them, smelling their hair and kissing them."

The dad of three wants to instill in his children that family comes first. Speaking to Parents Canada, he added, “The bond of the core crew is essential to a happy life.”

Hemingway Nash, 7

Benjamin and Nila’s first child, Hemingway, was born on July 3, 2016. When it came time to “catch the baby,” the OB/GYN asked Benjamin, who played a doctor in the medical drama Code Black, if he wanted to do it.

“I kinda looked at him and I was like, ‘Yeah, I wanna do this,’ ” Benjamin later recalled on Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family. "I was the first human my baby felt touch him ... [It was] the best thing ever."

In 2018, the actor shared a snapshot of his older son heading off to preschool with his backpack in tow.

“That’s one small step for this little man. One giant leap for the Hollingsworth clan,” Benjamin captioned the Instagram post. Earlier that year, he referred to his firstborn as the “light” of his life.

Benjamin has proudly shown off his eldest child’s artwork, too. In 2023, he posted a picture of a maple leaf painting that Hemingway created, along with photos of the two of them wearing Toronto Maple Leafs baseball hats. Benjamin captioned the post, “Let’s gooooooo! Nothing is better than watching playoff hockey with your kid. Except, maybe, when your little boy paints you a huge maple leafs painting 🍁 🥹 ."

Gatsby Willem, 5

Benjamin’s family grew on March 16, 2018, with the birth of his second son, Gatsby. The actor announced Gatsby’s arrival on Instagram with a photo of his baby boy, writing, “World meet Gatsby Willem Hollingsworth. Who knew that my heart could double in one day. I’m one lucky 🍀 Guy!”

Although Benjamin referenced The Great Gatsby with a book quote in his Instagram caption, the couple did not take the name from the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, according to Entertainment Tonight. Benjamin told the outlet in 2018 that a “wonderful series of coincidences” led them to the name Gatsby. He recalled wandering the streets of Paris during a summer trip with his wife and son Hemingway.

“I stumbled upon a restaurant with the name 'Gatsby' printed across its blue awning,” Benjamin shared. "It was all lit up and I found myself strangely drawn to it. There was something mystical about it so I snapped a picture," he added. "A few days later my wife was out on a walk of her own and came across the same awning and took the exact same photo."

When Gatsby was 5 months old, Nila said on Instagram that he is “completely opposite of his big brother” Hemingway. She wrote, “With 2 Cancers and a Virgo in the house, this little Pisces adds such a nice balance to our lives.”

Benjamin celebrated Gatsby’s first birthday in 2019 with pictures of his second son, including one of him striking a pose in a diaper, while wearing a hat and sunglasses.

“Happy First Birthday Gatsby! A full year of absolute greatness,” he began the caption. “We love you an infinite amount. Your smile and joyous expressions reflect all that is beautiful about life. You’re a determined, passionate, sensitive soul and I’m very proud to call you my son.”

Benjamin has shared plenty of sweet moments with Gatsby and the other Hollingsworths on Instagram in the years since. The family has enjoyed hikes, ski trips and adorable Easter celebrations.

Juniper Bloom, 3

Benjamin announced in April 2020 that he and Nila were expecting their third child together. In her pregnancy announcement on Instagram, Nila reflected on how COVID-19 affected her life before Juniper's birth.

“Oh, the stories we will tell her about the year she was born ... We will tell her that I was on bedrest for the first part of my pregnancy while we were home in isolation with her 2 and 3-year-old brothers," Nila wrote. "We will tell her how scared her dad and I were at times ... BUT we will also tell her how she fought to stay alive in my tummy ... We will tell her how she was always meant to be a part of our family and we will tell her every day how much she’s loved."

Benjamin officially became a girl dad on Oct. 15, 2020. The Virgin River actor shared his excitement on Instagram, writing, "She caught my heart the second she caught my eyes."

The dad of three has also shared on Instagram that Juniper serves as motivation during his workouts. “Nothing helps me dig deeper than literally pushing my motivation in front of me. One look in those eyes and I have all the fuel I need to push on," Benjamin wrote in 2021.

For Juniper’s second birthday in 2022, the actor posted a video of his daughter bouncing with excitement as she tried to blow out her birthday candles. In the caption, Benjamin joked, “My baby girl is 2 going on Lizzo.”

While her older brothers entered kindergarten and second grade in September 2023, Juniper attended her first day of preschool.
