Benee has announced the forthcoming release of her new EP LYCHEE, out March 4th via Republic Records. She also shared the single “Beach Boy.”

To record the follow-up to her 2020 breakout Hey U X, the rising star headed out to Los Angeles from her native New Zealand. In a press release, she said the music came from a “great creative space” in spite of being created during “the craziest time in all our lives.” Benee previously previewed the project with “Doesn’t Matter.”

On “Beach Boy,” Benee croons over gently sunny pop production from hitmaker Greg Kurstin. “Drive me crazy on the freeway/ You go to fast I get upset babe,” she sings. “And I hate it, but I just fake it/ Beach boy be my bitch babe if it’s only/ For a day, take me out but I won’t stay.”

“‘Beach Boy’ is pure fantasy, set in LA,” she said in a statement. “It’s about being happy alone, but still wanting some love; wanting the thrill without the pain. It was the first time I’d worked with Greg Kurstin, and it was so sick… we got on super well, and I love this track… I think it is perfect for cruising down the freeway with the top down.”

In support of the project, Benee will embark on a North American headlining tour beginning on May 31st in Montreal before heading stateside with stops in Washington D.C., Seattle, Los Angeles, and more, as well as festival sets at Governors Ball and Bonnaroo.
