Not content to just play a hero on the big screen, Benedict Cumberbatch had to go and be one in real life. While driving through London in an Uber with his wife, Sophie Hunter, Cumberbatch stopped the car and ran to the rescue of a delivery cyclist, who was being attacked by four muggers. Though the incident happened in November, details were just released Friday.

Manuel Dias, Cumberbatch’s Uber driver, told The Sun that the 41-year-old actor pulled the attackers, who were armed with wine bottles, off the cyclist. The muggers turned on Cumberbatch, before recognizing the star and fleeing.

"I had hold of one lad and Benedict another," said Dias, who followed the actor into the scrum. "He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave. He did most of it, to be honest."

The Sun reports that Cumberbatch was characteristically modest in a statement on the incident, saying simply that, "I did it out of, well, I had to, you know."
