Benedict Cumberbatch Narrates Trailer for Wes Anderson's Short Film 'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar'

'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,' the first of four upcoming Roald Dahl short stories adapted for the screen by Wes Anderson, premieres on Netflix Sept. 27

Wes Anderson is returning to Roald Dahl's written works for his latest movie.

Fresh off the June release of Asteroid City, Netflix on Thursday released the official trailer for 54-year-old Anderson's latest project The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. The movie, which runs just 39 minutes long, is adapted from the late British author's 1977 short story of the same name.

Benedict Cumberbatch marks his first appearance in an Anderson film as the title character. In the trailer, Henry breaks the fourth wall and narrates his own storyline as Henry, described as an unmarried, rich 41-year-old man who discovers a book titled A Report on Imdad Khan: The Man Who Sees Without His Eyes.

Sir Ben Kingsley appears as the man who claims to see without using his eyes, while Dev Patel also features in the trailer.

The film follows "a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling," reads an official Netflix logline for the movie.

Anderson previously adapted Dahl with the 2009 animated movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. The original short story appears in a collection of short stories titled The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More.

The movie is among a number of in-the-works projects at Netflix based on Dahl's books and stories after the streaming company acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021. It also comes three months ahead of Warner Bros. Pictures' release of Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet as the iconic character from Dahl's book Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Netflix will also release three more adaptations of Dahl's short stories — The Swan, Poison and The Ratcatcher — made by Anderson in the days following The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar's release.

In addition to Cumberbatch, Kingsley and Patel, the new movie also features performances from frequent Anderson collaborator Ralph Fiennes and Richard Ayoade.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar begins streaming on Netlix Sept. 27.
