Moving forward after a highly publicized breakup takes time, especially when millions of people know details of your personal life. But one former Bachelor is happy to move on and is excited for his ex to do the same. Ben Higgins reacted to Lauren Bushnell’s engagement to Chris Lane. Higgins was the lead of season 20 of The Bachelor in 2019. He ended his season by proposing to Bushnell before breaking off their engagement in 2017.

On the latest episode of his Almost Famous podcast, Higgins discussed where he and Bushnell ended their relationship upon breaking up. “Ultimately, we left that relationship, both of us, I think, saying, ‘I hope life brings you a ton of joy, I don’t want you upset and alone forever. I hope you find a partner as soon as possible. I hope everything that you want in this world that’s healthy and good is given to you,’” Higgins revealed. “And that’s exactly how I feel. So, to go to Lauren: Lauren, congratulations!”

With their relationship ended two years ago, the former couple seems to share an amicable and cordial relationship. Higgins continued to offer his warm wishes for Bushnell and Lane, a country singer, after their recent engagement. “We’re thrilled for you. You found a man that you love without any pressure and in a moment, after dating for a long time, you have said ‘yes’ to spending your life with him and I could not be more excited for you,” Higgins said. “I want nothing but joy and everything you ever wanted that our relationship would’ve have brought you and Chris. Congratulations.”

Following his ex’s engagement, Higgins revealed that he hopes the two are no longer associated with each other. Adding, “I hope for Lauren and myself, is that my life isn’t as closely tied to Lauren anymore. I hope that people aren’t reaching out,” he said. “I hope this is a chapter being closed completely because I don’t know Lauren anymore and my life isn’t tied to her.”

Since their relationship ended, Higgins has been dating model Jessica Clarke. For Bushnell, her proposal from Lane came at a Father’s Day celebration with her family in Oregon, in which the country crooner dedicated a song to his partner before getting down on one knee. “The journey was well worth it,” Bushnell shared in an Instagram post. “Thank you, Christopher Eric Lane, for softening my heart and making it whole. Never going to stop telling you how much I love you and I will hold onto you forever and ever! Lauren Lane has a nice ring to it.”

While The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and the franchise’s adjacent shows haven’t always yielded perfect results, for fans of former leads and contestants, it’s always a happy outcome when all involved eventually find love — even if it isn’t the way they expected.
