Ben Affleck Has Reportedly Been 'Checking In' on Jennifer Garner Amid Her Grief Over Her Dad’s Death

Over the years, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, who finalized their divorce in 2018, have proved they’re one of the most mature exes we’ve ever seen. In addition to supporting each other as friends, they’ve also become an example of what seamless co-parenting could look like. So, of course, it’s no surprise Affleck is right there beside Garner in a time of need.

According to an insider for Entertainment Tonight, the Gone Girl star is “actively involved” in helping Garner through the recent loss of her dad, William Garner. “[Affleck] is supportive across the board,” the source said.

“He has been checking in on her and making sure she knows he is there for her since her dad’s passing,” the source added. “It was the kids’ grandfather and Ben and him always got along,” the source said. As a reminder, Affleck and Garner share kids Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12

“He considered him family and always will,” the source concluded.

Garner announced her father’s peaceful passing on April 1 in an emotional Instagram post.

“We were with him, singing “Amazing Grace” as he left us (did we carry him across or scare him away— valid question),” she said. “While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85-year-old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners.”

“We are grateful for Dad’s gentle demeanor and quiet strength,” she continued. “For how he teased with a mischievous smile, and for the way he invented the role of all-in, ever-patient girl dad. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership and faith.”

“Surrounded by daughters and grandchildren, cheering for his beloved [Texas A&M] Aggies, captaining a boat, and — most of all — next to his wife of 59 years, our Mom,” Garner wrote.

“There is so much to say about my dad — my sisters and I will never be done talking about how wonderful he was, so bear with us — but for today I share these memories with my appreciation for the kind and brilliant man, father, and grandfather he was, as well as the loving legacy he left behind,” Garner concluded.

The tear-jerking tribute was accompanied by a carousel of throwback photos. In one picture, William is sitting on the ground with a plate of watermelon on his lap, and Garner is crouching behind him, her head resting lovingly on his shoulder. In the next, Garner is a little girl, going down a water slide with her dad. She then added a funny clip of Garner and her dad in a Capital One Venture Credit Card ad, some more family photos with Garner, her parents, and her two sisters, and a selfie of Garner and her dad in a Texas A&M hat.
