Ben Affleck on His Version of Batman: 'He's a Heavyweight Fighter in the 12th Round'

Ben Affleck is not the first person to don the Batsuit for a movie, nor will he be the last. But in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, his version of Batman is unlike any that fans have seen on the big screen to date.

Affleck says it’s the familiarity that he and fans have with the character that drew him to the role.

“When we start the movie and it’s a guy who’s really at the end of his rope — this heavyweight fighter in the 12th round — you kind of get a sense of what those other rounds might have looked like. And that’s a real advantage as an actor that the audience has that much information about your character,” he said.

Affleck also said that part of what attracts people to Batman is that deep down he’s just a human being.

“He’s flawed and he has to overcome and compensate for his flaws and his weaknesses. And that he’s constantly grappling with that makes him much more identifiable,” he said.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters now.
