Ben Affleck Gushes Over Ex Jennifer Lopez: 'She's the Real Thing'

Friendly exes! More than fifteen years after calling it quits on their relationship, Ben Affleck still has nothing but positive things to say about Jennifer Lopez. The actor, who met the songstress in 2002, revealed just how proud he is of his ex during a recent interview.

“I keep in touch periodically with her and have a lot of respect for her,” he shared, adding that he was particularly impressed by the 50-year-old’s performance in her recent movie Hustlers and felt she should’ve gotten more recognition for the film at the 2020 Oscars.

“She should have been nominated,” he shared. “She’s the real thing.”

The real thing, indeed! Though the talented performer, who took the stage earlier this month at the Super Bowl halftime show alongside Shakira, was snubbed at this year’s Oscars, she still earned both Golden Globe and SAG nominations for her role as Ramona in the drama/thriller. Back in December 2019, Lopez was especially shocked to learn of her nominations. In a video posted to Instagram, the actress is seen visibly struggling to contain her excitement as she shared the news.

“I’m just waking up and I just heard that I got nominated for Best Supporting Actress for a Golden Globe. Oh my God, it’s been 20 years since I was nominated for Selena,” she said. “I am humbled and so excited to be recognized for this role in Hustlers as Ramona.”

The mother of two also took to her Twitter page to share the news of her SAG nomination: “I just can’t believe all of this is happening,” she said.

Though Lopez didn’t win the Golden Globe or the SAG Award, she still gave a critically acclaimed performance in Hustlers — one that her ex-fiance is still very much impressed by.

“How awesome is it that she had her biggest hit movie at 50?” he continued. “That’s f—ing baller.”

The former couple got engaged in 2002 after meeting on the set of their movie Gigli. By 2004, they were calling it quits on their engagement but still remained on good terms.

“I would do it all over again, I think. I really would. Even the relationship part,” the actress told HuffPost Live back in 2014. “I just feel like everything is part of your story and your journey and is meant to be and helps you grow if you’re willing to look at it, and I’m willing to look.”
