Paddington, a bespectacled bear with a penchant for marmalade, is returning to the big screen for the third time in the movie “Paddington in Peru.”
‘Paddington in Peru’ release date
This sequel will release in the U.S. on Jan. 17, 2025, but if you take a trip across the pond to the United Kingdom, you could see the movie as soon as Nov. 8, 2024, per Variety.
The movie, currently in production, “follows Paddington and the Brown family as they visit Aunt Lucy in Peru, but a mystery sends them to the Amazon rainforest and up Peruvian mountains,” according to IMDb.
Who’s in the ‘Paddington in Peru’ cast?
Members of the original cast Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton will reprise their roles of Paddington and Aunt Lucy, Deadline reported. Other cast members include Emily Mortimer, Hugh Bonneville, Antonio Banderas, Madeleine Harris and Olivia Colman.
Though Rachel Zegler was originally cast in the movie as Gina Cabot, she was unable to continue in the role as the actors strike is still ongoing. Carla Tous will play Cabot instead of Zegler, Alex Ritman reported for The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s been a joy and an honor to shoot ‘Paddington in Peru’ with such a wonderful and talented cast and crew. I feel incredibly lucky to have been blessed with such a lovely group of people, many of whom have returned to the world of this beloved bear,” director Dougal Wilson said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We are also delighted to have welcomed Emily, Olivia, Antonio and Carla to the Paddington family.”

Paddington at the box office
The first two Paddington movies performed well at the box office.
The first movie, “Paddington,” chronicled the story of how a bear from Peru named Pastuzo goes to London after his aunt Lucy moves into the Home for Retired Bears. The Brown family meets Paddington at a train station where he has a tag that says, “Please look after this bear, thank you,” and the family takes him in.
“Paddington” had an $18 million opening at the box office across 3,303 theaters. Worldwide, the movie grossed $282 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
The initial movie had a sequel called “Paddington 2.” Paddington still lives with the Brown family and enjoys his days by walking around town and eating plenty of marmalade sandwiches. He soon starts working to save up money to buy Aunt Lucy a special book and the book is stolen.
Opening across 3,702 theaters, “Paddington 2” brought in $11 million and ended up grossing $187 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.
Both movies received high audience scores and rave reviews from critics. “Paddington 2” has a 99% critics score and an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes while the initial movie landed a 97% critics score and an 80% audience score.
