Belleville’s Skyview Drive-In is finalist in national reader poll. How you can vote

It’s true that when it rains, it pours.

Since my recent column about Skyview Drive-In, in which I share readers’ memories of the venue and highlights from its 75-year history, I have more news.

Skyview is a finalist in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for best drive-in.

Owner Steve Bloomer said he’s “just very flattered to have the support” of the community.

He said the word is spreading via the drive-in’s Facebook page and on Google.

The timing really can’t be better, what with 2024 being the drive-in’s 75th anniversary year.

Additional plans are also in the works to celebrate the anniversary, and Bloomer said he has upcoming interviews with KMOX and Fox 2’s Tim Ezell.

As far as the voting goes, Skyview is one of two Illinois drive-ins on the list.

The other is Harvest Moon Twin Drive-In Theatre in Gibson City, which is a small town in Ford County, about 30 miles north of Champaign.

As of this writing, Skyview is leading the vote, which is open until 11 a.m. Monday, May 13. Folks can vote once a day until then.

The winners will be announced Wednesday, May 22.
