Bella Hadid has a message for those criticizing her skinny frame.

The 22-year-old model will be walking in this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and she alarmed some fans after sharing photos from her fittings on social media. Hadid posted a series of images modeling knee-high snakeskin boots in a black push-up bra and underwear. Almost immediately, people started commenting on her thin appearance.

“Skin and bone. That second page is quite frankly disturbing,” one person wrote. “I have nothing against being slim but this is unhealthy on so many levels. Shame on @victoriassecret for encouraging and promoting this totally unrealistic image. We must put an end to the concept of looks = value.”

“Malnourished,” wrote another user, while one person commented, “you’re literally just bones, stop promoting this, it’s unhealthy. you’re supposed to be a role model — act like one.”

Another person also expressed concern over what message Hadid is sending. “She looks amazing, but regardless of how she looks, it is dangerous to use this physique as the picture of health,” read the comment. “Many young girls may use this to justify engaging in detrimental eating behaviors, striving to look like this so they can be ‘healthy.’ It also creates an unrealistic standard by which many cannot achieve and may lead those who are at perfectly healthy weight to construe themselves as unhealthy.”

While Hadid didn’t directly address negative comments, she later edited her caption to include this final phrase: “all body types are different and react differently to a great workout routine and a healthy diet.”

Hadid had plenty messages of support too.

“In 2018 we’re still body shaming women who are confident in their own skin…? It’s so incredibly sad to see how cruel people can be when they are able to hide safely behind their computer/phone,” wrote one Instagram user.

“If it’s okay for someone who’s overweight to post pictures and be positive about it it’s okay for someone who’s underweight to do the same,” added another.

Over 1.5 million people (and counting) have liked the photo, including her boyfriend, the Weeknd. Hailey Baldwin, Kylie Jenner, and Rosie Huntington-Whitley also double-tapped with their approval.
