For those who've maybe forgotten, it's worth remembering that one of America's nicknames is The Great Melting Pot. We don't all look alike! Not exactly shocking, but it's fact that's all too often overlooked in much of our marketing and entertainment. And while we have a long way to go to correct this, Gap has at least moved the needle with its latest campaign, which is a refreshing sight to see.

Directed by soon-to-be Vogue U.K. editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, the campaign is called "Bridging the Gap," and features a diverse cast that includes Wiz Khalifa, actors Priyanka Chopra and Yara Shahidi, and models Adwoa Aboah and Christie Brinkley, among others. In the accompanying video, the cast sings along to "Sunny" by Boney M., with each person wearing a personalized version of blue jeans and a white top-about as quintessentially American a look as you can get.

In the behind-the-scenes video, Enninful-who is British but, as he says in the video, has a lot of love for America-speaks of the importance of showcasing a positive and optimistic message about the many faces and voices of our country. "The world we're living in has changed a lot," he says. "So I wanted to do something that expressed the idea of togetherness and celebrating each other. And trying to change the world we're in through positivity"

Needless to say, it's a refreshing change of pace given our current political climate. And while it won't necessarily change that climate, it's nice to see a brand from an industry that's had its diversity issues step up and celebrate a broader range of the people who live here. Even if it's just to sell some jeans and T-shirts.
