This past weekend, Saw X producer Oren Koules, director Kevin Greutert, cinematographer Nick Matthews, and production designer Anthony Stabley sat down to discuss the latest Saw installment at the Midsummer Scream Halloween & Horror Convention. Here's everything they revealed about the film so far:

"SAW"

Saw X — which is the tenth film in the franchise's nearly 20-year history — takes place chronologically between the first and second films. The filmmakers explained that they wanted to return to what fans love most: the earlier films.

The upcoming film was repeatedly described as the most personal story in the franchise to date. At its heart, producer Oren Koules revealed that the film is the story of Kramer as a human. The trailer reveals that John Kramer travels to Mexico in the hopes of an experimental cancer treatment providing him the miracle he needs to survive. However, when he returns to the US, he learns that the whole thing was nothing but a scam, and, unsurprisingly, that does not go over well with him.

According to director Kevin Greutert, Saw X is "the most epic and longest Saw movie" yet. It's said to be more straightforward than the previous films, so much so that one filmmaker shared it could likely be watched as a standalone, and the viewer would still be able to follow along with relative ease.

Koules and Greutert shared that Saw X did so well at the first test screening, the producers were convinced the two had rigged the screenings by bringing in a friendly audience. While they did not, producers set up a second test screening and didn't tell them the location until rightttt before it was set to start. Once again, it received the same acclaim from the audience.

An exclusive clip was premiered at Midsummer Scream, featuring the trap as seen in the Saw X promo poster. The trap is connected to both the victims' eyes and fingers, asking him to chose to save one or the other via a dial under his hand. Moving the dial up in turn snaps a finger back each time. Unfortunately for him, time runs out, and the tubes connected to his eyes suck them right out of his sockets. You can see a glimpse if it during the trailer here, starting at 2:00.

And finally, we got this first, up-close look at a new trap to be featured in the upcoming film:
