Becky Lynch Defeats Ronda Rousey to Win First-Ever Women's Main Event at WWE's WrestleMania 35
It’s official: Becky Lynch is the 2019 Raw and Smackdown Women’s Champion.
In the first-ever women’s main event match at WrestleMania 35, Lynch, 32, beat Ronda Rousey, 32, and Charlotte Flair, also 32.
At one point during the match, Lynch pulled a table out from under the ring at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The table ultimately helped lead Lynch to victory, expelling first Flair before besting Rousey to become the champion.
Rousey — who made her WWE debut nearly a year ago after building her career in the UFC — was the previous Raw women’s champion. Lynch, on the other hand, was named Wrestler of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 2018. Flair — whose father is WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair — is a seven-time WWE champion.

Ahead of the match, Flair celebrated the WWE honoring women with the headline event on Twitter.
“It’s been my…it’s been OUR goal to main event #WrestleMania,” wrote Flair. “It was never just talk, it was the hard work of every woman past, present, and future to get us here.”

Rousey also talked about the match in a post on her website, RondaRousey.com, saying that she never thought being in the WrestleMania main event was “in the cards.”
“Obviously, I didn’t think I’d be able to have a full-blown career in the WWE,” she wrote. “Me and [husband Travis Browne] wanted to start having kids really soon and I wanted to be able to be a full-time stay-at-home mom and I pretty much just put aside a couple of months for me to go wrestle and just have fun and do whatever I did. I didn’t think I’d be able to be a great wrestler and have singles matches within 8 months. I honestly thought I’d only go until November.”
She continued, “And I completely just fell in love with the business. And I really love it and I kind of took to it a lot faster than I thought I would.”
Rousey said that she, Flair and Lynch “all exceeded all of our own expectations this year.”
“And it’s so invigorating just to have that feeling that this is just the beginning, this isn’t the peak of the Women’s Evolution, this is just one more ceiling being shattered, one more bit of progress,” Rousey explained. “This isn’t going to be the last women’s main event of WrestleMania, this is just the first, and that is the most encouraging thought to me.”
WrestleMania streamed live around the world on WWE Network beginning at 7 p.m. ET on April 7.
