Beckley Concert Association ending season with “The Cleverlys” comedy

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — The Beckley Concert Association will be closing out its 2023-2024 season on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium.

The show will end with a Barney Fife-impersonating comedian and a musical performance by The Cleverlys.

To start off the show, Nashville-based comedian and family man Rik Roberts will entertain the public as his Barney Fife persona at 2:30 P.M. Then he will do his stand-up act at 3:00 P.M., which is suitable for all ages.

At 4:00 P.M., more laughs will continue as the Cleverlys bring their comedy and musical experience to the stage. The Cleverlys will also playing their own version of popular songs but in the style of Bluegrass, such as “Walk Like an Egyptian,” “Milkshake,” and Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable.”

The group had their start in the Ozark Mountains to headlining festivals and performing arts centers all over the country, and even performing at the Grand Ole Opry stage. Due to their experience and popularity, The Cleverlys have been called “a master class of comedic timing, showmanship, and world class musicianship.”

“The group has evolved over the years and the comedy and musicality is the best it’s ever been. Our show is now on the top shelf,” said Digger Cleverly, also known as Dr. Digger. He and his nephews Ricky Lloyd, DVD, Haggis, and his youngest brother, Wasper, form The Cleverlys clan.

This event will be at the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium at 400 Stanaford Road, Beckley. It should be noted that tickets are included if you have a Beckley Concert Association season membership, otherwise it is $30 for a ticket at the door.

Doors open at 2:00 P.M. Children and students attending kindergarten through grade 12, must be chaperoned by an adult, and children are free. College students can bring a valid school ID with them for free admission into the show.

The New York Times described this show as, “If Dolly Parton, Earl Scruggs, and Spinal Tap spawned a litter of puppies, it would be The Cleverlys.”
