The casting reunites Neuwirth and Skybell, who previously appeared together in 2012 Off Broadway production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Classic Stage Company.

“I’m completely thrilled to be a part of this beautiful production,” said Neuwirth, who won Tonys for her performances in Sweet Charity and Chicago, “and to help tell this fascinating tale through the sublime score of John Kander and Fred Ebb.”

Skybell, whose Broadway credits include “Tevye” in Fiddler in the Roof in Yiddish, Pal Joey; Wicked; The Full Monty; and Love! Valour! Compassion!, said, “In these times of increased antisemitism, I am proud and privileged to play the Jewish role of ‘Herr Schultz’ in Cabaret. It’s important to tell stories like Cabaret, which is, of course, massively entertaining, but also sheds a light on this moment in history, when fascism and intolerance nearly overcame the Jewish people and the world at large.”

Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Cabaret features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood. The show features the songs “Willkommen,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” “Mein Herr,” “Maybe This Time,” “Money,” and the title number.

Neuwirth has long been one of Kander & Ebb’s most revered interpreters, with performances not only in Chicago but also Kiss of the Spider Woman. She also headlined the symphony tour Bebe Sings Weill and Kander & Ebb.

This revival of Cabaret began performances in November 2021 in London’s West End, with Liza Sadovy and Elliot Levey originating the Fraulein Schneider and Herr Schultz roles.

Today’s casting announcement was made by producers Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Underbelly, Gavin Kalin Productions, Hunter Arnold, Smith & Brant Theatricals, and Wessex Grove.
