Bebe Neuwirth exits Madam Secretary

Nadine Tolliver will no longer serve at the pleasure of the Secretary. Bebe Neuwirth has left Madam Secretary.

Following an emotional episode Sunday, which saw the longtime chief of staff hug Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) farewell as she left to be closer to her son and soon-to-be-born grandbaby, Neuwirth, who was a series regular on the show since its 2014 premiere, posted her own goodbye message on Twitter.

“So grateful for my time @MadamSecretary – a wonderful show where I love the cast, crew, background artists. #lifelongfriends,” she wrote. “So grateful to @CBS for accepting my request to depart @MadamSecretary and writing a beautiful exit for me.”

Nadine’s final moments with her boss also contained a rather poignant sentiment: “I love public service, but it’s gotten so vicious,” she said. “Somehow, we’ve become our own worst enemy. And I don’t want to spend the rest of my career fighting.”

Neuwirth’s colleague Erich Bergen thanked the Emmy winner on Twitter following the episode.

“Working with @BebeNeuwirth has been one of the highlights of my career,” he said. “Till the next one, my friend.”

Madam Secretary airs Sundays on CBS.
