Beaver native stars in 'Diva: Live from Hell' playing at new North Hills theater

ROSS TWP. ― Taking a break from his standup comedy career, Beaver native Matty Malloy will produce and star in a solo musical, "DIVA: Live From Hell," to be staged the weekend of Friday the 13th in October at a new Allegheny County theater.

"The show will be performed at the soon-to-be-opened Sunken Bus Studios" in Ross Township, Malloy said. "Inspired by 'All About Eve,' this show tells the story of Desmond Channing and how a rivalry with the new kid in school causes him to snap. Now, he is stuck in Hell performing a nightly cabaret telling the story of his downfall. It's a silly, campy show that makes a perfect night out for the Halloween season. It also gives people the chance to see a new entertainment venue in Pittsburgh as well as be introduced to a new musical."

With book and characters by Nora Brigid Monahan and music and lyrics by Alexander Sage Oyen. "DIVA: Live From Hell," enjoyed a successful run in London last year.

The 75-minute show starts at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13-14 with a matinee at 3 P.M. Oct. 15. Tickets are $20, sold at themattymalloy.com.

Malloy believes it will be a perfect vehicle for his comedic skills honed at Arcade Comedy Theater, Bottlerocket Social Hall, the Pittsburgh Improv, and in warmup slots for national comics Annie Lederman, Steve Hofstetter, Tina Friml and Julia Shiplett. Malloy was also a semi-finalist in the NYC Queer Comedy Festival, performing at Broadway Comedy Club and Greenwich Village Comedy Club.
