A campaign that British beauty brand Lush says is meant to “highlight abuse that people face when their lives have been infiltrated by undercover police” has sparked backlash over claims that it brands law enforcement officers as liars.
Eric Von Zipper: FM Zarif: “Our judiciary is an independent organ.” This answer was given with respect to the five Americans currently being held in Iranian prisons. Zarif’s claim is bogus. Three American hikers who had been arrested in 2009 were freed after the Oman paid $1.5 million in bail to Iran. Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian was convicted of espionage in October 2015 but was released along with four other Americans in January 2016, after the United States released $1.7 billion in frozen Iranian assets as part of the nuclear deal. This money did not go to the judiciary, it went to the regime. The judiciary targets the hostages and puts them through an opaque process, which leaves no room for appeal, only payment for one’s freedom. Or to put it in cruder terms: ransom.
