The 2024 Golden Globes has named its best performance by a male actor in musical or comedy.

Among the actors nominated for the honor were Barry's Bill Hader, Shrinking's Jason Segel, Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis and Only Murders in the Building costars Steve Martin and Martin Short. But The Bear's Jeremy Allen White came out on top, earning his first Golden Globe win.

Upon hitting the stage to accept his award, White thanked his colleagues on the FX series.

"I love you guys so much," he said after listing their names. "I must have done something right in this life to be in your company. Thank you guys. Thank you so much!"

The actor also gave a special shoutout to his two daughters, Ezer and Dolores, whom he shares with ex-wife Addison Timlin. "Wrap it up, okay. Ezer and Louis, you are my heart. I love you. I love you. I love you," he continued.

"Thank you. Thank you so much," he added of winning. "I feel so lucky I get to do this. Thank you guys."

Hulu's The Bear follows White's character Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, a classically trained chef and star in the fine dining world, as he takes over his family's iconic sandwich shop in the wake of his brother's death and attempts to turn it into a fine dining establishment.

The actor recently spoke to PEOPLE about the online obsession with his onscreen character. "What do I say to the internet?" The Bear star asked before responding, "Thanks for watching. I don't know, I'm flattered. It surprises me, truly. But I'll take it! I'll take what I can get!"

White's fellow nominees also put up impressive performances this year, including Barry's Hader.

Hader was honored with his Golden Globes nomination for his performance in Barry's fourth and final season.

Hader created Barry with Alec Berg and played the title character, a former U.S. Marine who worked as a hitman before he stumbled into an acting class taught by Henry Winkler's Gene Cousineau. Hader won two Emmys for his performance. The fourth season, which wrapped in May, earned him Emmy nominations for acting, directing, writing, and Outstanding Comedy Series.

In April, the Saturday Night Live alum told PEOPLE in 10 that having dealt with sporadic, acute fits of anxiety in his own life helped shape his performance in the HBO dark comedy.

"There's definitely been moments in the show where the character has gotten panicked and got a panic attack, and I definitely felt that before," Hader shared at the time. "When I was on Saturday Night Live I would get panic attacks pretty frequently. You know Barry has a panic attack and you go, 'I know exactly what that feels like.'"

In addition to Only Murders in the Building's nomination for best television series, comedy or musical, Steve Martin and Martin Short were in the running for best performance by a male actor in a comedy of musical for the third straight year.

Only Murders in the Building is also nominated for best television series, comedy or musical. The hit Hulu series follows three strangers Selena Gomez, Martin and Short who share an obsession with true crime and wind up creating a podcast investigating murders in their own apartment building.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2022, Martin shared he had no plans to pursue another acting project when the Hulu series eventually comes to an end.

"When this television show is done, I'm not going to seek others," Martin confessed at the time. "I'm not going to seek other movies. I don't want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it."

Short, who's titillated fans with his performance on Only Murders in the Buildings in his own right, told E! News he couldn't picture his friend stepping away from his Hollywood career.

"I can't imagine him ever retiring. I hope not, because then you know what happens to me," Short quipped with a hilarious finger-across-the-neck gesture.

Segel also received a nomination for his performance in Shrinking. In the Apple TV+ series, the actor, who also co-created the series, plays a therapist trying to grapple with his wife’s death.

While speaking with Ali Wong for Variety’s popular Actors on Actors series in June, Segel revealed that his inspiration for Shrinking was motivated by his own feelings of "grief."

“It was just trying to think of this idea that I think is kind of universal, beyond just losing a loved one,” he explained at the time. “We filmed right after the pandemic. Everything was so weird. Culturally, we couldn’t quite name it, but we all had this sense that something was taken from us that we’ll never get back.”

As he looks back on his career, Segel told Wong, ‘I wish I had zigged where I zagged.”

Sudeikis was given a nomination for his efforts on Ted Lasso as the Apple TV+ series, which wrapped its third season in May 2023.

The comedy first premiered in August 2020 and viewers quickly began reciting lines by Sudeikis' affable title character Lasso. In March, Sudeikis told Deadline that season 3 was "the end of this story we wanted to tell" though he isn't ruling out a spinoff.

"I think that we've set the table for all sorts of folks … to get to watch the further telling of these stories," he added.
