Beachgoer finds human foot in running shoe that washed ashore, California cops say
A beachgoer came across a running shoe that had washed ashore a California beach — and a human foot was inside, police said.
The person came across the blue Saucony shoe around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at a beach at Point San Pablo marina in Richmond, Police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said in an email to McClatchy News.
When the beachgoer found the shoe, there was what appeared to be a human foot and bones inside it, Pomeroy said.
Richmond Police believe the human foot came from someone who had died jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge or the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge several months earlier.
The shoe was in good condition and it was a size 6 or 7, he said.
The race and gender of the human foot couldn’t be immediately identified, but investigators are looking into possible missing person cases, he said.
It’s not uncommon for human body parts like fingers and feet to wash ashore this area because of the tide from the two bridges, he said.
The foot was handed over to the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.
