The Beach Boys’ story is coming to Disney+!

PEOPLE has the exclusive sneak peek for the trailer of how the chart-topping boy band from Hawthorne, Calif. brought fans hits such as “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Fun, Fun, Fun” starting in the early 1960s.

“Play hard and strong, all the way,” a voice is heard saying as the trailer begins, showing archival footage of the group in the studio. "Hold it please, try it one more time from the top."

From there, viewers get a glimpse of the pandemonium The Beach Boys experienced at the height of their career — women screaming in the crowd, magazine covers, and more.

“The Beach Boys just represented some sort of fantasy,” a narrator adds in the trailer.

Next, the clip cuts to rock and roll historian Josh Kun giving his take. “They were participating in the creation of the California dream,” he says.

The all-new documentary will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning on May 24.

Expect to see how the band, whose original lineup consisted of the three teenaged Wilson brothers: Brian, Carl, and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and school friend Al Jardine, formed from humble family beginnings.

“I’m super happy with the way the documentary turned out, they did an amazing job," Brian, the group’s original bass guitarist, says in a statement. "It really brought me back to those days with the boys, the fun and the music. And of course those incredible harmonies.”

There is also never-before-seen footage and all-new interviews with The Beach Boys’ Brian, 81, Love, 83, Jardine, 81, plus David Marks, Bruce Johnston.

Other luminaries in the music business who discuss the band’s influence during the documentary include Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monáe, Ryan Tedder and Don Was.

“Man, they made me wanna go to where they had cars, and girls in bikinis, and sun,” the “Out Come the Freaks” musician, 71, says in the trailer.

The preview also discusses how The Beach Boys were often compared to another big boy band from across the pond — The Beatles.

The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, with over 100 million records sold worldwide.

Their achievements also include being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

After watching the documentary, fans can relive the nostalgia with the official soundtrack for The Beach Boys, which features songs from the film. It will be available to stream and download on May 24. Additionally, the group’s 1964 album, Shut Down, Vol. 2, was released on limited edition blue and white marble vinyl on March 29.

The group’s only official book, The Beach Boys by The Beach Boys, was released on April 2, via Genesis Publications.
