BBC to celebrate Stormzy with series of specials

The BBC have announced a series of specials about Stormzy ahead of the release of his new album This is What I Mean.

A Stormzy Special will see the rapper take part in an in-depth conversation with DJ Trevor Nelson to talk about his new album, his rise to success and personal growth.

The 45 minute program will also see Stormzy perform a set from Abbey Road Studios. He will perform three songs from his new album and also two classic hits.

A Stormzy Special will broadcast on BBC One on Tuesday 15 November at 10:40pm

Trevor Nelson commented on the special by saying: “I first interviewed Stormzy in 2014 for his debut Live Lounge at 1Xtra and I haven’t interviewed him since then. When I met him he was the hottest new MC in the UK and now he has become a cultural icon. I’m really looking forward to hosting this show and to being able to chat to him once again.”

The BBC have also made a number of special announcements for radio with Stormzy's new single 'Holy Spirit' set to be premiered by Greg James with an interview with Clara Amfo to follow.

The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Two and 1Xtra Breakfast with Nadia Jae will also play performances Stormzy has recorded exclusively for the BBC.

Amfo also commented on her interview with Stormzy: “It was great to have this special conversation with Stormzy for Future Sounds; his artistic evolution has been a joy to watch but more importantly listen to - consistently honest, funny and charming, I'm excited for our listeners to learn about this new part of his career journey.”

Stormzy also recently appeared in a BBC documentary with Louis Theroux where he allowed the broadcaster to witness the recording of his latest album.
