Summer came early at CinemaCon, where Dwayne Johnson brought footage from his upcoming Baywatch reboot, including one especially surprising scene from the film.
Paramount brought a slew of swimsuit-clad Baywatch "lifeguards" onstage to promote its summer release. Along with them came the film's star Johnson. He introduced the cast, including Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra and Alexandra Daddario. Johnson described the crew as the "Avengers of the beach."
The audience was then shown extended footage from the film, which is directed by Seth Gordon. In one scene, Efron and Johnson's characters go to investigate a crime and gather evidence at a hospital morgue. There, Johnson's character tells Efron's that he has to check the dead body's private parts. He's forced to lift up the cadaver's penis in a scene that made the audience gasp. Just then, Johnson snaps a photo of Efron doing this on his iPhone, and it's revealed to all be a joke on Efron's character.
Later, they're forced to hide in the morgue (Efron on top of a dead body), and bodily fluids drop down onto him. The scene got a strong laugh from the audience of theater owners.
Johnson stars in the reboot as Mitch Buchannon, a life guard who uncovers a criminal plot that threatens his Bay. A new recruit, a famed Olympic swimmer (Efron) joins the crew as they go up against a criminal ring at the beach.
For two weeks, Paramount will see which theater can sell the most tickets for Baywatch. The winning theater owner will be flown to New York to attend the U.S. premiere of the film in New York with the cast.
Baywatch hits theaters on May 26.
