DARREN MAXWELL: I once bought a Batman T-shirt from a guy while he was still wearing it. I was actually at a collector's fair, and I saw this shirt, and I thought, I've got to have that. And I went up to him, because when I was in the collecting zone, it was like blinkers only. I mean, I never deviated. I was like, you know, really, really gung ho.

So I went up to this guy and I said, I want to buy your shirt. That's it. End of story. And he thought I was joking. Of course, I wasn't joking. When I was in the zone, I didn't joke.

And once he realized that I was serious, he actually said, all right. I'll capitulate, and I'll sell it to you at the end of the day. I said to him, if you spill any sauce on it or anything like that, you're in big trouble.

And sure enough, at the end of the day, he obviously got another T-shirt from somewhere else. He handed it over to me. I brought it home, had it washed, put in the-- in the drawer, and that was the last I saw of it. So it's just been sitting there ever since.

And I look at it now and I go, what was the big deal? It's just a T-shirt, so-- But that was just how it worked back then.

It was an addiction that I didn't enjoy, but I just did because I had to do it. It just happened because I had to be in the scene. It was peer group pressure from a subconscious level to collect things just to be part of the group. It's the craziest thing. It's true.
