“The Batman Part II” gets pushed back a year, will hit theaters in 2026

Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight will return — but not as soon as previously planned.

Warner Bros. announced Tuesday that The Batman Part II has been delayed by nearly a full year. The much anticipated sequel to Pattinson and director Matt Reeves' moody superhero film The Batman will now hit theaters Oct. 2, 2026, rather than Oct. 3, 2025.

So far Pattinson, who plays Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne, is the only announced cast member, though Reeves pledged at Cinemacon in 2022 that "the whole team will be taking audiences back to Gotham in The Batman 2."

In the meantime, the spinoff TV series The Penguin is still slated to be released at an unspecified date in late 2024 on Max. The show focuses on Colin Farrell's Penguin character, one of the minor villains from Reeves' 2022 film.

Warner Bros. will now release the Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed Frankenstein film The Bride on Oct. 3, 2025, the slot previously occupied by The Batman Part II. The movie is written and directed by a former Batman film actor in Gyllenhaal, and stars another in Christian Bale.

The studio also announced that an untitled Paul Thomas Anderson event film will get an IMAX release on Aug. 8, 2025. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti. Meanwhile, Barry Levinson's Alto Knights, starring Robert De Niro, has been pushed back to a Mar. 21, 2025, release, from its original November 2024 slot.
