Batman comic book writer James Tynion IV announced the launch of a new independent multimedia production company, Tiny Onion, with plans to create content across television, film, animation and publishing.

The company will seek to assemble top talent in the realm of behind-the-scenes comic book creation — their goal is to establish an independent editorial and design team to enhance their clients’ work via curation and packaging before presenting them to various publishing partners throughout the industry.

Tiny Onion will function not as a publisher but as an “independent creative services entity with a broad presence across multiple publishers,” including BOOM! Studios, Dark Horse Comics, DSTLRY and Image Comics.

“Over the last 12 years, I’ve watched the comics industry from the inside, working alongside its best talent and biggest publishers, seeing the exciting ways that it can connect to other media spaces, and I’ve managed to work my way to some prominence,” Tynion said in a statement. “Now, I have the chance to take everything I’ve learned and test out every way to make it work even better. Not just for me, but for the generation of creators coming up behind me.”

Known for his work in the “Joker War” Batman saga of comics, Tynion IV is also responsible for penning comic bestsellers like “Something is Killing the Children,” “The Department of Truth,” “The Nice House on the Lake,” and “W0RLDTR33.” He’s an award-winning comic book writer and a ten-time GLAAD Media Award for Oustanding Comic Book nominee, an award he was able to bring home in 2017.

Tiny Onion is backed by a seed investment from Lyrical Media, a Los Angeles and New York-based company that develops, produces and finances stories across multi-media formats, including film, television, video games, podcasts and graphic novels.

Though Tiny Onion’s first project is yet to be announced, the team said they have “aggressive plans across the publishing, film, television and animation industries.”
