That Bastard Jamie Is Finally Back. Is It For Good?

That Bastard Jamie Is Finally Back. Is It For Good?

As Thanksgiving approaches, Yellowstone has family in mind. The family we choose, like little Carter, who will undoubtedly spend his holiday shoveling shit from horse stalls while getting vague speeches about life from Rip. The family we protect, like Monica and sweet, traumatized Tate who Kayce moves with back to Broken Rock. And, of course, the family we decide should die after a Titos on the rocks with three olives. Happy holiday season to that bastard Jamie. You've got it coming, my man.

Speaking of Jamie, we haven't seen much out of him this season, though he's still a prime suspect in nearly killing his whole family. That all changes tonight. Episode Four really starts prying at the question of whether or not Jamie is loyal to his Dutton clan. To be honest, I'm not sure what the answer is. Is it that because Jamie hasn't been around that I have a weird soft spot emerging? Is is that Wes Bentley is too damn charming with that salt and pepper coif? I couldn't tell you! Chances are though, show-runners won't make us wait long to find out what's going on.

Let's break down the episode and see if it makes any more sense after.

Beth with the Dirty Mouth

Who, who, who is writing for Beth this season? In a meeting with the lead of Market Equities, Caroline (played beautifully by Jacki Weaver), Beth hurls some of her most offensive lines to date. Let's just say that dildos, leashes, and a parade of f-bombs are involved. Somehow, it all ends with the women settling into a mutual respect for one another. Beth is Caroline's monster, she says, so Caroline offers her a position running all the tourism expansion in Montana. In return, Beth wants all of Caroline's shares in Market Equities.

Oh, and not to be outdone, she goes home, tells John, and then tells him that what will help him is if he gets "some pu**y." Yeah, I can't even type it out. Even hard ass Kevin Costner looks up at her and says, "Beth, that's too far... this whole man to man shit thing we got going on." Agreed, brother.

Brotherly Love

Speaking of! Let's get back to Jamie. John tells Kayce that he needs to go see Jamie to get intel on Riggins, the man who orchestrated the killing of the Duttons. When Kayce asks his dad why he wouldn't ask Jamie himself, John admits that he can't sit in a room with his estranged son as he's not certain if the attacks on the family weren't Jamie's fault. Yikes.

Kayce, a real softy lately, makes the request, knowing that if Jamie turns down looking into the imprisoned man behind the attacks, it's because he was likely involved. But to everyone's surprise, Jamie agrees, and they share this tender moment and say that they love the other one.

Drat. That's short lived. When Jamie looks into Riggins' case file, he discovers that his own birth father once shared a cell with the man behind all the Dutton family attacks. Yeah, buddy. That means that in a kind of tangential way, Jamie is definitely responsible for John and Kayce's near assassinations. (We said kind of.)

Days of Our Bunkhouse Lives

The strange tension between Walker and Lloyd hits a climax, hilariously, over a pot of cow stew. Temperatures had been on the rise in the bunkhouse for a while, and with Jimmy gone, Mia sad, and Lloyd still carrying a grudge over Laramie leaving him for Walker, everything erupts into an all out physical brawl. Rip settles the score by beating the bejesus out of Lloyd because that's the rule when you fight on the Dutton ranch.
