Basking Ridge Country Club's new restaurant is open to the public

Usually, country club dining is reserved for those able to shell out thousands of dollars per year. But that’s not the case at Basking Ridge Country Club.

The club, which dates back to 1926, opened Twenty-Six Tavern on Oct. 7. The restaurant offers sandwiches, soups, salads, pizzas, tacos and American fare made by executive chef Angel Rivera, who previously worked at celebrity chef David Burke’s restaurant 1776 in Morristown.

“We are trying to present a country club experience that’s open to the public,” said Basking Ridge Country Club general manager Chris Thomas. “Everyone is very price-conscious, so we want to provide value ... To be able to get private club food and experience without having to pay for membership separates us from other restaurants.”

The 100-seat restaurant has an outdoor dining area, with views of the golf course greens.

Prior to the restaurant and club’s ownership by Heritage Golf Group, which started Sept. 30, the onsite restaurant for nearly a decade was Delicious Heights Outpost — which was also open to the public.

At Twenty-Six Tavern, Basking Ridge Country Club members can make reservations and host large parties. Eventually, there will also be members-only dining areas, special menus and events, such as classes and tastings.

“With this property’s history and support from the local community, we felt it was important for us to give back and allow the public to continue to dine here because it has meant a lot to local folks over the many years it has been open,” Thomas said.
