BASKETBALL: Science & Arts women fare well in preseason polls

Oct. 26—The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma women's basketball received preseason recognition.

After a strong 2023 campaign that saw the Drovers advance to the national tournament, Science & Arts will begin the season as a ranked team. The Drovers are in the top 25 of the NAIA.

NAIA rankings

The NAIA recently released its preseason poll for women's basketball, ranking the top 25 teams before showing who also received votes. The Drovers are one of two teams from the Sooner Athletic Conference to be ranked entering the season.

Science & Arts picked up 125 points in the preseason poll to earn the 25th spot in the NAIA rankings to start the season. Mid-America Christian University is the other ranked SAC team, and the Evangels are ranked 19th.

SAC poll

Coaches in the SAC also have high expectations for the Drovers this season.

In the recent poll released by the conference, coaches from the SAC predicted the Drovers to finish second in the conference this season. Science & Arts earned one first-place vote, 104 points and only finished behind MACU in the poll.

Recent success

The Drovers are coming off another season that featured a trip to the national tournament. Science & Arts has been to the national tournament in back-to-back seasons and will be looking to extend that streak this season.

The Drovers tied MACU for the second-best conference record last season, going 17-5 in the conference. Science & Arts went 23-7 overall.
