Based on a True Story Season 1 followed Ava and her husband Nathan (played by The Flight Attendant‘s Cuoco and The Mindy Project‘s Messina), a down-on-their-luck couple whose lives collide with an infamous serial killer terrorizing Los Angeles and seize a unique opportunity to capitalize on America’s obsession with true crime by making a podcast with the killer.
The eight-episode series, in which Cuoco also serves as an exec producer, premiered last June to mixed reviews and a decidedly low profile (at least when compared to Cuoco’s Flight Attendant).
Speaking of Flight Attendant, Cuoco previously indicated last year that the Max dramedy was “probably” done. “We did two [seasons] — we should probably be done,” she told People. “I think I’ve been outnumbered with that thought; there’s definitely interest in doing a third season. I think for me, at this moment, the plane has landed.”
Our sister site Deadline, however, later posited that Season 3 “appears likely,” with series creator Steve Yockey “bouncing around potential ideas” for Cassie Bowden’s next mission. (TVLine has reached out to a Max rep for comment.)
