Service of Remembrance in Red Bank

Leaders from local churches and synagogues will offer essential words of comfort and reconciliation. A joint choir and 10-piece orchestra will perform selections from Gabriel Fauré’s "Requiem."

"Although the language of the "Requiem" is from Christian liturgy, these particular words speak everyone’s understanding that our departed friends are still present," a release says.

Tuckerton Art Center exhibit

An alcohol ink painting by Jeanne Easton Preston is part of an exhibit now showing at Tuckerton Art Center.
An alcohol ink painting by Jeanne Easton Preston is part of an exhibit now showing at Tuckerton Art Center.

If you like things "Silky and Shiny," head to Tuckerton Art Center. The exhibit features work "where color floats through painted silk scarves and dances on alcohol ink canvas and tiles," according to a news release.

Featured in the exhibit are Linda Blum, Judy Kronmeyer, Chuck Person, Jeanne Easton Preston, Linda Saladino, Alexandra Smith, Joette Van Ness, Barbara Whelan and Sara Zimmerman.

Painting on washed, stretched and dried silk is an ancient art that outdates painting on canvas and paper by centuries, according to the release.

"The medium is not a fabric paint, but rather a dye that penetrates the silk, making both sides an art object," the release said. "The art is first drawn with a resist medium that keeps the dye from spreading out beyond the artist’s design. The resist is then washed out, leaving a painted image with silky soft transparency."

Alcohol ink is a relatively new technique that has become popular in America, but is still largely unknown elsewhere. The artistic results are "sparkly electric color."

Free parking is located behind the building. The Main Street driveway is shared with Wells Fargo Bank. .

Go: "Silky and Shiny," through Nov. 16, the gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays; redcanoestudio@comcast.net, ibbausmith@gmail.com. Information about Pine Shores classes and activities is available at pineshoresartassociation.org
