Barry Manilow joins Kyle Meredith to talk about his current tour, album anniversaries, and upcoming releases.
The legendary singer explains how he donates to high school music programs on each stop of his tour, his love for melody, and how was able to become a success as a commercial jingle writer. He also describes his appreciation for electronic artists Underworld, Fat Boy Slim, and Claptone before explaining his issues with modern pop music.
“I stopped listening [to modern pop music] because I couldn’t bear it,” he explains. “You gotta give the producers credit. They really figured out a way of making wonderful sounding records, but it’s not based on melody, it’s based on great rhythm. All these great loops and sounds you can get from your computer, it’s just wonderful, but what’s happening on top of those great loops, it doesn’t move me at all.”
