Barbra Streisand and the Other 19 Top-Selling Female Recording Artists of All Time

Barbra Streisand, who turns 75 today (April 24), is the best-selling female recording artist in history. The superstar has sold 68.5 million albums in the U.S. over the years — 4 million more than her nearest rival, Madonna. (You could say the Funny Girl tops the Material Girl.) Streisand is the leader among female artists for most gold albums (51) and platinum albums (30).

Streisand landed her first gold album in May 1964, before such rivals as Mariah Carey and Celine Dion were even born. She has amassed eight Grammys, four Emmys, two Oscars, and a special Tony. In honor of Streisand’s milestone birthday, here are the 20 female solo artists who have sold the most albums in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Assn. of America.
