In her new memoir "My Name is Barbra," the actress and singer recalls her discovery of Charles III's attraction to her.

Barbra Streisand has revealed her surprised reaction to a royal crush.

In her new memoir My Name is Barbra, the actress and singer recalls her discovery of King Charles’ attraction to her.

Streisand says that she was told that the then-prince Charles had said that she was his “only pinup,” as he displayed a poster of her in his room at Cambridge. He apparently also described her as “devastatingly attractive” with “great sex appeal.”

“Who knew?” Streisand writes. “Certainly not me, and it’s probably better that I didn’t when we met, because it would have made me self-conscious.”

Earlier in the book, Streisand describes her first encounter with the future king of England. In 1974, Charles was on naval duty in San Diego and visited a recording studio in Los Angeles, where the actress was recording the soundtrack for Funny Lady. “The prince was utterly charming when he came to the studio, but frankly, it’s hard to have a real conversation when you’re surrounded by fifty photographers snapping pictures,” Streisand writes. “I was drinking tea and offered him a sip… and the future king of England actually drank from my cup, which was apparently unprecedented.”

20 years later, in 1994, Charles attended one of Streisand’s concerts in London, where she “thought it would be so much fun to sing ‘Someday My Prince Will Come’ while a real prince was sitting in the Royal Box.”  Streisand recalls, “Onstage I told the story of the first time we met in 1974, when I was recording songs for Funny Lady and we shared a cup of tea (as the news footage of that meeting played on the Jumbotron). And then I couldn’t resist adding, ‘Who knows? If I had been nicer to him, I could have been the first real Jewish princess!’”

After the concert, Streisand discovered an unusual bouquet of flowers in her hotel. “It didn’t look like the usual sort of arrangement done by a florist. It was more loose and free, as if it were from somebody’s backyard,” she writes. Streisand asked her assistant Kim Skalecki who sent the bouquet, and she responded, “Some guy named Charles.”

“It was simply signed ‘Charles,’ but what Kim had failed to notice was the royal crest at the top,” Streisand continues. “And the flowers were fresh from his garden! What a lovely gesture.”

Streisand says she’s still with friends King Charles to this day. She later details numerous interactions she’s had with the king, including tea in Los Angeles in 1994 and a visit to his home, Highgrove, in 1995. The actress and the king still send each other flowers, paintings, and drawings for their birthdays.
