Barbra Streisand, Alejandro Inarritu to speak at Tribeca Film Festival
Barbra Streisand and Alejandro G. Iñárritu are headed to the Tribeca Film Festival.
The multihyphenate entertainer and the Oscar-winning filmmaker will each participate in Tribeca Talks at the 16th annual gathering in April, organizers announced Thursday. Streisand will speak as part of the Storytellers series, which focuses on creators who work across several mediums, and Iñárritu will take part in the Directors series.
The 2017 festival will also feature the world premiere of Kathryn Bigelow and Imraan Ismail’s The Protectors: Walk in the Ranger’s Shoes, a virtual-reality documentary short chronicling a day in the life of African rangers protecting elephants from ivory poachers.
“These three creative forces — Alejandro, Barbra, Kathryn — are true auteurs,” said Paula Weinstein, executive vice president of Tribeca Enterprises, in a statement. “They push themselves and their audiences by constantly entertaining and challenging us through their work.”
A decorated singer, songwriter, actress, and filmmaker, Streisand released her 35th studio album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, in August. Her screen credits include Funny Girl, A Star Is Born, and Yentl. Iñárritu is coming off back-to-back directing Oscars, for Birdman and The Revenant.
Bigelow, known for gritty, topical thrillers such as The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, is currently working on a feature film about the 1967 Detroit riots.
The 2017 Tribeca Film Festival will run April 19–30.
