‘Barbie’ Producer LuckyChap Rolls Dice On ‘Monopoly’ With Lionsgate & Hasbro – CinemaCon

Lionsgate and Hasbro have entered into a deal with Barbie producer LuckyChap to shepherd development and produce Monopoly, a feature based on the classic board game. The project is currently in development, with Hasbro Entertainment also producing. The news landed during Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon on Wednesday morning in Las Vegas.
Lionsgate extended its development rights to the game with its purchase of eOne, which was completed in December 2023. With 99% global awareness, Monopoly is the world’s most popular board game brand and is available in more than 100 countries. It has sold nearly half a billion copies going back to 1935.

LuckyChap, the award-winning production company headed by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, said in a statement today: “Monopoly is a top property – pun fully intended. Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro.”

LuckyChap most recently produced the worldwide phenomenon Barbie, as well as Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and the upcoming release My Old Ass, a hit at Sundance starring Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella.
James Myers is overseeing Monopoly on behalf of Lionsgate. Robert Melnik led the studio’s dealmaking.
