From Barbie with pink drinks to Greek and Romanian festivals, fun food things to do

Movie fun

The Jane Pickens Film & Event Center in Newport, at 49 Touro St., will bring "Barbie" to the theater from Aug. 11-24. They will be featuring four pink alcoholic drinks to enjoy. On opening night, the local store Little Chateau will have a Barbie-themed pop-up shop in the lobby. Dressing up Barbie is encouraged.

A weekend of traditional Greek food, music and dance at the 95th annual Grecian Festival at the Assumption Greek Church, 97 Walcott St., Pawtucket. The 95th annual festival begins Friday, Aug. 18, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 20. All the details are at greekfestivalRI.com. The hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Dine on roasted lamb, pork souvlaki and chicken souvlaki dinners, pastichio, moussaka, spanakopita and more. The pastry booth serves homemade baklava, galaktobouriko, rice pudding, almond rolls and baklava cheesecake. To drink, there will be Greek Café Frappe or hot coffee. Sip on some ouzo or Metaxa in the “Kafenio.” The bar will be serving a variety of American and Greek beers, wines and spirits. All food and desserts are available for take-out or dine-in.

There will be music with Georgios Karatzas and Athenian Entertainment playing Saturday and Sunday night, and a marketplace. There is free parking with shuttle service across from Pawtucket City Hall.

Romanian festival

Save the date for Aug. 26, when St. John The Baptist Romanian Orthodox Church in Woonsocket hosts its annual Food Festival from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The church celebrated its 110th anniversary last October. The main foods being served will be: Sarmale (stuffed cabbage); Mititei (grilled ground meat from a mixture of beef and lamb); Chicken and Lamb Shish Kebabs; Pita (spinach pie); and many homemade ethnic desserts. It's at 501 East School St.
