The "Barbie" buzz has officially hit her home state (Yes, Barbie is from Wisconsin).

To celebrate the upcoming release of the iconic plastic doll's first live-action film, the AvaLounge at the Avalon Atmospheric Theater will be turned into a "Malibu Dream Lounge" pop-up from July 20-22.

"We want to create something that feels like you're stepping inside the Barbie Dream House and gives you that opportunity to live and feel the magic of the Barbie world," said Lisa Romella of Milwaukee-based Awkward Nerd Events, the pop-up's organizer.

The lounge will be transformed "from top to bottom," with photo ops, signage, décor, curtains, chair covers, sparkly things and so much pink, according to Romella. Organizers are putting "a lot of thought and detail" into it, she said.

Themed cocktails and mocktails will be available for purchase in addition to the bar's usual offerings, and also special snacks.

Plus, a person or two dressed up as Barbie characters will be dropping by, Romella said. Guests are encouraged to cosplay, too.

"Dress big, make it funky," Romella said. "We want you to live your best Barbie life. Because you really can be anything."

The "Malibu Dream Lounge" will be open to the public from 6 p.m. to around 10 p.m. or later during the pop-up, Romella said. Admission is free.

"It taps into the fun nostalgia," she said. "It encourages you to have fun again and play. And I think, as adults, that's something we tend to get away from sometimes."

The Barbie theme will also sprinkle into the theater's lobby, which is only accessible with a movie ticket, Romella noted. There will be an additional photo op there, as well as raffles that people can purchase tickets to enter.

Awkward Nerd Events was also offering a VIP experience package, which sold out. It included a premium seat for a showing of the movie, early entry into the "Malibu Dream Lounge," access to a special lounge that overlooks the lobby, a gift bag and more.

More on the new 'Barbie' movie

With Barbie being around for 64 years, her multimedia franchise — one of the highest grossing of all time — has included over 40 films, TV shows, video games, web series, board games, books and comic books, per a previous Journal Sentinel report.

The new Greta Gerwig film, which officially hits theaters July 21, stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie's beau Ken.

The rest of the cast includes other Barbies and side characters based on real dolls from the toy company, and a couple of humans, according to a USA Today report.

This movie is "really special" for a lot of people who grew up with Barbie, Romella said.

For the first 12 years of her life, every gift she got for any holiday was Barbie-related, she said. She's hung onto many of them over the years.

"If you have fond memories of anything related to Barbie, if you've ever wanted to feel like you've wanted to step into the Dream House and see what it feels like, then you want to come check this out," Romella said of the pop-up.
